"Modi sahab talks about his Gujarat model. What has he done? He deprived the poor farmers of their land to give away 35,000 acre of agricultural land to industrialist Adani at Rs one per metre," Rahul Gandhi said at an election meeting.
"Adani ji then sold the land at Rs 800 per metre. His industry grew from a Rs 3000 crore company to a Rs 40,000 crore company now just by selling farmers land at high cost and not through production. This he calls the Gujarat model," Rahul Gandhi said.
He said that people of Gujarat had worked hard for years setting up textile mills and other industries much before the advent of the Modi government, while the Gujarat Chief Minister was claiming that it was because of his efforts.
Talking about the work done by Congress led UPA government, Rahul Gandhi said that the UPA govt. built 3 times more roads in 5 years then the NDA govt. and provided more than twice the electricity provided by NDA. Jadavchandra Borah Bayon first came to Sattra in 1994 when he was in class five. Soon he was deeply drawn to the atmosphere there. A young priest and a professor at Dibrugarh University he talks about the preservation of this cultural revolution in Assam and the help they got from the State Government.
He says the State Government sanctioned 17 lakhs rupees for maintenance of the Sattra guest house. The tourism department has also provided them a museum. Many of their disciples have managed to get scholarships from the CCRT (Centre for Cultural research and Training) and get a monthly stipend. They were also sanctioned 1.2 lakhs rupees every year to support their cultural activities.

"BJP needs to realize that the Gujarat model will not work in the entire country. Under the BJP-AGP government, Assam grew only at 2 percent, with limited development, but under the Congress, the growth rate has been 13 percent. Every state is different and needs its own model to succeed," he said. "We want to empower you, which is why we have established 6 Autonomous Councils and 18 Development Councils and put power in your hands. Rahul Gandhi remembered Nido and wished for peace and unity across the country. He thanked the council chiefs for their cooperation and hard work toward nation building.
