Organizations moving out of the cloud

A recent report by HCL Technologies found that 24% of organizations are planning to move out of the cloud over the next three years. This is a significant number, and it raises the question of why so many organizations are considering moving away from the cloud.

That is what we call it as, Cloud repatriation, it is the process of moving workloads and data from a public cloud back to an on-premises or private cloud environment.

    Cloud Adoption to Cloud Repatriation

#Cloudadoption refers to the process of transitioning an organization's data, applications, and services from traditional on-premises infrastructure to a cloud-based infrastructure. Whereas, Cloud repatriation refers to the process of moving data, applications, and services back from the cloud to an on-premises infrastructure.

Both cloud adoption and #cloudrepatriation can have their benefits and drawbacks, depending on an organization's specific needs and circumstances. Cloud adoption can provide organizations with access to powerful computing resources, flexibility, and scalability, while cloud repatriation can provide greater control, increased security, and potentially lower costs in some cases.

Yes, it is true that some enterprises are moving from cloud adoption to cloud repatriation. While cloud adoption can provide many benefits such as scalability, flexibility, and cost savings, it may not be the best fit for every organization or workload.

Media, Entertainment sector set to $100 bn industry

The Secretary announced that Invest India is going to be leveraged in order to bring in higher foreign investment into India in the film sector. The Ministry has merged various film units under one; NFDC based in Mumbai which is going to be the hub of the cinematic arm of the government and wants to revamp the Film Facilitation Office.

The ministry is going to hand this over to Invest India, to come up with a single-window portal for opening theatres so that more and more theatres can come up and the public gets more avenues to watch the magic of films in theatres.

Observing the changed viewing habits of people due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Secretary noted that when ticket prices were brought down to Rs 75 three days back, all shows were full. He added that this shows that if price points are right, people can afford theatres.

“The craving to go to the theatres is there, so we need to work on how we can bring people back to theatres,” he said. The secretary told the industry that the government hopes to table the amendments to the Cinematograph Act in the winter session of the parliament.

Going forward, the National Centre of Excellence for AVGC is going to be set up in collaboration with the private sector, the Secretary informed. There will be a proposal for a 48% stake for the Ministry of I&B, 26% for FICCI and 26% for CII, so that it is the private industry and not the government which leads the AVGC transformation. The Ministry of I&B functions will work as a catalyst for the upsurge in the media and entertainment industry.

    Digital savvy Banks

While certain digital savvy banks have built trust among customers, fintech firms bring in new technology so as to reach out to more users and also innovate new products and features to make any transaction easier and convenient. Apart from tie-ups, a few banks have their own financial subsidiaries that offer various financial solutions to customers.

The new age technologies like AI, ML, RPA and Cloud Technologies play a crucial role. Banks can optimize banking operations including customer onboarding by preventing frauds, building suitable product recommendations, and more. A fully-equipped and developed digital lending software can offer myriad benefits to accelerate digital lending, allowing banks to disburse loans faster.

Now, Digital banking has ramped up the customer onboarding rates, and with growing numbers of customers also comes an increased amount of data. Cloud technologies are the most optimal way to store, organise, and retrieve data.

Secondly, Financial Application Programming Interfaces are one of the most important technologies used in digital banking. APIs connect with the application and allow interactions, transactions, payments, and sharing of information.

Most banks have access to various windows to buy technology, they have access to various consultancies to implement technology, but the key is how the organisation can be flexible enough, be adaptive enough to that change and re-engineer itself. And that is what will define success.

  • Can banks meet the neobank challenges in India?

Can banks meet the neobank challenges in India?

Neobanks have grown significantly in India with the role of Fintech getting deeper. The definition of neobanks has changed as they are differentiating themselves from online banking services and moving away from being centred only around digital banking to focus on providing a superior customer experience. Neobanks are now being heralded as the future of banking. According to statistics, the global neobanking market size stood at $47.39 billion in 2021 and is estimated to grow at an astronomical rate (compounded annual growth rate) of 53.4 per cent from 2022 to 2030. Neobanks have shifted their focus towards providing superior customer experience. Therefore, it is useful to identify the needs of such target customers which in turn have fuelled and sustained the growth of neobanking in India and worldwide. However, Neo banks or fintech companies are not directly regulated by RBI nevertheless, that does not mean that they are completely out of RBI's clutches. "These fintechs are indirectly under RBI's purview. It is estimated that there are more than 250 neobanks worldwide. Incumbent banks should focus on faster time to market for new products and services plus new ways to add value and increase loyalty with their customers, says Abdul Naushad, CEO of Buckzy Payments.

Neobanks’ use of cloud technology means they avoid having to spend heavily up-front on expensive IT infrastructure. With standardized open banking APIs, neobanks can build and bring to market products and services that enable faster, more frictionless fund transfers between account holders, other financial providers, and transactions with merchants. With these foundations in place - and sustained by a steady flow of private equity cash - neobanks are free to focus their time and effort on creating and launching easy-to-use current accounts and other products that prioritize a top-notch customer experience. The rise of neobanks comes at a time when customers have become dissatisfie

Demand of Digital video ad spend to increase 26% in 2022

Digital video is a driving force for buyers and will continue to be in 2022. It complements the increasing number of formats and platforms, it’s never been as complex to execute cross-screen strategies. Video has taken center stage on social platforms that were once text- or photo-centric—including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, even Pinterest. Digital video advertising spending surged 49% in 2021 and is expected to increase an additional 26% to $49.2 billion in 2022 according to IAB’s 2021 Video Ad Spend and 2022 Outlook report. There is a positive outlook for both linear TV and OTT. “There are multiple scenarios which are evolving in the country, Experts believe. India needs to be catered to in a different way. This was also not just about pricing and product but also content. “It’s not an ‘either or’ market yet, but an ‘and’ market, both can survive and will survive and there is an urgent need to create habits in your consumers. The future is certainly going to be made brighter with the advent of 5G. Mobile device technology is the main driver of next years' developments in Video Advertising. High mobile processing power together with new 5G internet connection speeds will allow more complex mobile video ad strategies. Formats such as live broadcasting, 360° panoramas, or virtual reality videos will transfer the concept of immersion to the advertising field. The new generation of technology is going to bring more capabilities and more efficiencies.

The biggest challenge faced by content creators now is the need to evolve at the pace that the audience is evolving, as audiences were evolving too fast and keeping in sync with the pace was the biggest challenge. A survey in India says, the viewership of Televisions has come down drastically, even though the sale of Television sets has shown a positive growth. Many are shifting their choices to the OTT platforms and a stunning report says, Indians treat news channels as a source of entertainm

It’s time to Focus on creating ‘work’ opportunities’

The Covid-19 pandemic and the pathogen’s steady stream of variants have brought unprecedented disruption in the workplace and forced many professions to adopt technology. It also brought to the fore the fact that not every work or job required occupying space in an office. If we look at the global employment figure of around 3.33 billion, around 2 billion people operate in an informal employment mode; of this, the gig economy is already touching 200 million. Gig economy today ranges from ride-sharing, deliveries, home-services, beauty and wellness to even gig-work in the hi-tech space such as coding, project management, marketing, fintech, pharma, edu-tech and so on. Even MGNREGA, technically, is another form of gig work. The prime minister recently mentioned that 800 million people in India received free ration and benefited from the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. This also indicates that a vast section of the population is still vulnerable, and we need to work harder to create more work opportunities for their livelihood. With the advent of internet and smartphone penetration, the gig economy started to grow, and due to its flexible and participatory nature, it gave the freedom and opportunity for workers to choose days/hours one wanted to engage to earn. However, one concern that kept everyone awake was social coverage and safety.

The ministry of labour has demonstrated India’s progressive outlook and is the first to acknowledge the growing number of workers associated with the unorganised sector and gig by extending social security benefits to them. Almost all notable start-ups operating in the gig economy space provide the gig workers with some form of social security cover like insurance and other benefits, and have often supplemented these provisions with additional voluntary provisions in many cases. The Social Security Code 2020 aims to provide social security for unorganised workers, gig workers and platform workers besides making provis

    India –Electronics Hub

It is a very important move in the journey of ‘Make in India’ for electronics. The journey started in 2020 with an aim of attracting large investments in the country that includes manufacturing of electronic components, semiconductors and mobile segments. India’s cabinet has approved a $6.37 billion (Rs 637 crore) plan to boost electronics manufacturing. The policy has set an ambitious target of increasing electronics manufacturing in the country to $400 billion by 2025. The new measures that come at a time when the world is battling the coronavirus epidemic and halting global supply chains is aimed at attracting large investments in the country that includes manufacturing of electronic components, semiconductors and mobile segments. The Scheme shall extend an incentive of 4% to 6% on incremental sales of goods manufactured in India and covered under target segments, to eligible companies, for a period of five subsequent years. The move is likely to give an aggressive push to ensure big companies such as Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Oppo and Vivo, besides contract manufacturers like Foxconn and Wistron bring their global supply chains to India and make the country an electronics hub.

With a population nearing 1.4 billion, India has emerged as one of the largest markets for electronics products in the world. While the highest growth is in demand for smartphones, lighting products, security products as well as industrial technologies, there is also significant expansion in markets for medical electronics, defense, and emerging technologies such as 5G, IoT, Industry 4.0, and smart cities. As per a report, the country’s electronics market is forecast to reach $400 billion by 2025. Digital media spending on search advertising

There is massive shift in an individual’s online browsing and searching pattern has paved the way for brands looking to invest in search advertising. There has been a steady growth of search as a digital medium across PC and Mobile in India with approximately 25% of digital media spends accounting for search advertising. While some brands have already started leveraging this medium to achieve their larger business goals, others can leverage search advertising to create a smarter customer journey to reach the right audience, with the right message. A 28x increase was observed for the keyword ‘most popular Netflix series’ and 381x for ‘cricket live score’. There has also been a significant increase in online gaming which is reflected in the 52% increase in online games related searches.

Additionally, searches for education and e-learning related content also saw a massive spike. People have been investing a lot of effort in future-proofing their careers by learning skills that would either help them transition to a new career or progress in the existing one. There has been a 367% increase in searches related to ‘learning online’, while a 103% increase in those related to ‘training’. Increasingly eco-conscious consumers and investors are placing greater importance on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues than ever before. As a result, e-commerce players have begun to make their supply chains greener and the startups are following the trend. As the business operations affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic induced travel restrictions and lockdowns, consumers are now increasingly preferring the online mode to purchase goods and services. Consequently, the Indian e-commerce (online retailing) industry is going to grow at a CAGR of 22% between 2020 and 2024 to be worth US$115.5bn in 2024.

    The success of Ecommerce

The term ‘e-commerce’ is not a simple word, it is the mix of thousands of companies and millions of ideas, yielding trillions of dollars across the globe. In a simple term, E-commerce is all about just online transactions - buying and selling of goods and/or services over the Internet. Online shopping is growing significantly faster than brick-and-mortar stores. It is a broader eco-system which is all Internet based interactions with business partners, suppliers and customers such as: selling direct to consumers, manufacturers and suppliers; monitoring and exchanging information; auctioning surplus inventory; and collaborative product design. In a layman's term, these online interactions are aimed at improving or transforming business processes and efficiency.

It is true that Amazon and Flipkart are leading the race in the e-commerce India sector and both have been extending their arms into digital payment, groceries and many more. Indian conglomerate Tata plans an ambitious e-commerce push to take on Amazon, Flipkart & Reliance. At the same time several other players including domestic and MNC funded companies are coming into this trade. However, Amazon and Walmart owned Flipkart have a cut-throat run right from the time they have launched in India. Now the crux of the story is if we remember just a year back upto July 9th 2020, we have seen how the Chinese e-tailers Shein and Club factory were working in India being the government along with 57 other apps. Both the apps were taking COD orders. While Club Factory was working on WiFi and mobile networks, Shein was only working on certain WiFi and telecom networks. Shein and Club Factory were among the most popular e-commerce websites in India before the ban. However, a report says, Club Factory was the third most used e-commerce app in the country after Amazon and Flipkart. It had over 100 million mo

Edge computing is gaining popularity in COVID-19

Edge computing was considered a futuristic concept – something that was attractive to talk about but lacked practical world examples. This has ceased to be the truth! Amidst spiraling numbers of COVID-19 cases, organisations are relooking their operational structures, to meet the new challenges that the second wave has brought about. As remote working has once again become a buzzword, paving the way for cloud enabled technologies to shape the new normal. At the same time, the cloud is gaining momentum, and enterprises are frantically looking for ways to optimize their network, storage and agility, edge computing has turned out to be the perfect solution.

Edge computing” is a type of distributed architecture in which data processing occurs close to the source of data, i.e., at the “edge” of the system. With the growing number of IoT devices along with connected automotive and industrial applications; latency, privacy, and bandwidth become critical limiting factors and edge computing solves this by bringing the intelligence closer to the source. Edge computing represents a crucial investment for any smart city in order to really reap the benefits of a next-generation IoT network. Its prime feature comprises closer proximity between data storage and processing which can be leveraged in enhancing the data management and processing for smart cities. Edge computing has emerged as the viable architecture as it supports distributed computing to deploy compute and storage resources closer to the data source.

  • The future of workplace would tackle the newer security risks

The future of workplace would tackle the newer security risks

The pandemic has boosted the remote work which has become the norm. This has led to immense growth in the demand for cloud computing software from companies transitioning their on-premise operations to the digital space. Edge cloud computing in particular saw a demand rise as operations enabled by the internet of things became increasingly common. There has been a shift in the way people think about enterprise security. The largest threat to a quickly changing workforce is the awareness perspective. Like, we can’t expect employees to practice good security if they aren’t aware of the dangers of working from home. “When you authenticate, when you VPN, you extend the company network to your home network that could be riddled with malware. If they aren’t aware of that, we can’t expect a lot of awareness from them. They have to understand why they need a VPN.”

Security awareness has got more visibility in the WFH environment, with an increasing attack surface and a workforce that has to be more self-reliant when it comes to securing their devices and home networks, as well as recognizing the increase of threats designed to take advantage of virus fears and stuck-at-home boredom. Hence, it is important for the companies to engage deeply to understand the availability of the security technologies. Supply chain attacks like 2020’s SolarWinds virus – where hackers opened backdoors into companies’ internal systems by exploiting a compromised third-party application – will likely become more common as hackers learn from each other and exploit vulnerable enterprise systems.

Bhumi Pednekar on reaction to Thank You For Coming, OMG 2, lack of gender equality, viewer hypocrisy

Bhumi Pednekar recently appeared in the comedy Thank You For Coming and the film invited some extreme reactions from the viewers. While some praised the film for its bold concept, some shamed it for that. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble host Akash Bhatnagar, Bhumi spoke about the latter group of people and slammed them for the shaming. She expressed her disappointment towards people who didn’t criticise the film but its intent. The actress discussed the prevalent gender bias and how people never took offence when she was a part of such stories told from a male perspective. She pointed out how Pankaj Tripathi and Akshay Kumar starrer OMG 2 was supported by the same people who shamed her film, when somewhere they dealt with the same subject. Bhumi revealed if not getting any support from women within the industry disappointed her. She highlighted the hypocrisy of the situation that people accept objectification of women but have a problem with them talking about their sexuality. You can watch the entire conversation here.
