'PPIs Interoperability' | RBI's Fintech Implications | VARINDIA News Hour

Prepaid instruments are designed to hold funds as a store of value funded by an individual or business for a specific purpose. PPIs are typically issued to consumers or businesses by platforms looking to facilitate digital transactions through swipes i.e., POS machines, online i.e., Payment Gateway, UPI payments i.e., Scan n Pay, or for payments to other customers i.e., Wallets. RBI mandated interoperability for full-KYC prepaid instruments and for all payment acceptance infrastructure by 31st March 2022. Interoperability refers to the ability of computer systems or software to exchange and make use of information. This would imply the exchange of information and the seamless transfer of funds between PPIs. The move towards mandatory interoperability is being seen as consumer friendly as it will allow customers of mobile wallets to transfer funds from one wallet to another. Further, as a confidence-boosting measure, and to bring uniformity across PPI issuers, it is now proposed to allow cash withdrawals for full-KYC PPIs of non-bank PPI issuers. In the past, the RBI’s policies have inadvertently affected the popularity of PPIs. With the rollout of UPI and the imposition of strict obligations to ensure KYC compliance in 2017, PPIs witnessed a loss of appeal in providing wallet services. The customer base began migrating towards the use of UPI, which provided zero-cost transfers directly from bank accounts, bypassing the service fee which was charged on such transactions by PPIs.
Secondly, the RBI proposed to gradually allow the payment system operators to obtain direct membership in the Central Payment System. This would enable them to additionally transact through Real-Time Gross Settlement and National Electronic Funds Transfer without the interference of traditional banks. ഫെയ്‌സ്ബുക്കിന്റെ കീഴിലുള്ള വാട്സാപ് ലാഭമുണ്ടാക്കുന്നില്ലെന്ന് മാർക് സക്കർബർഗ് പലതവണ പറഞ്ഞു കഴിഞ്ഞു. എന്നാല്‍, അതു പഴങ്കഥയാക്കാനുള്ള ഒരുക്കത്തിലുമാണ് ഫൈയ്‌സ്ബുക്. വാട്‌സാപ്പിലൂടെ പണമിടപാടുകള്‍ ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ തന്നെ ആദ്യം അവതരിപ്പിക്കാനാണ് കമ്പനിയുടെ നീക്കം. രാജ്യത്ത് 40 കോടിയോളം ഉപയോക്താക്കളുണ്ടെന്നാണ് കണക്കുകള്‍ പറയുന്നത്. ഇവരെല്ലാം പണം കൈമാറല്‍, പരസ്പരം സന്ദേശമയയ്ക്കുന്ന ലാഘവത്തോടെ ചെയ്യാന്‍ തുടങ്ങിയാല്‍ കമ്പനിക്കു താമസിയാതെ ലാഭത്തിലാകാം. ചൈനയില്‍ വീചാറ്റ്‌പേയ്ക്കും മറ്റും കിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്ന സ്വീകാര്യത ഇന്ത്യയില്‍വാട്‌സാപിനു കിട്ടാതിരിക്കാനുള്ള ഒരു സാധ്യതയുമില്ല. എന്നാൽ വാട്സാപ്പിന്റെ സുരക്ഷാ വീഴ്ചകളെ കുറിച്ച് രാജ്യത്ത് വൻ ചർച്ചയാണ് നടക്കുന്നത്. വാട്സാപ് പെയ്മന്റ് രാജ്യത്തെ ഡിജിറ്റൽ പണമിടപാടുകളെ ഒന്നടങ്കം തകർക്കുമെന്നാണ് വിദഗ്ധർ പറയുന്നത്.കഴിഞ്ഞയാഴ്ച ഫെയ്‌സ്ബുക്കിന്റെ മേധാവി മാര്‍ക് സക്കര്‍ബര്‍ഗ് പറഞഞത് താമസിയാതെ ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ വാട്‌സാപിന് പണം കൈമാറ്റം തുടങ്ങാനായേക്കുമെന്നാണ്. ഇക്കാര്യം ഇന്ത്യയുടെ റിസര്‍വ് ബാങ്കിന്റെ പരിഗണനയിലാണ്. ഏതുസമയത്തും ഉത്തരവിറങ്ങാം. എന്നാല്‍ സക്കര്‍ബര്‍ഗിന്റെ പ്രസ്താവനയ്ക്കു ശേഷമാണ് വാട്‌സാപ്പിൽ സ്‌പൈവെയര്‍ ആക്രമണം ഉണ്ടായ വാര്‍ത്ത പുറത്തുവന്നത്. ഇത് സാഹചര്യത്തെ അടിമുടി മാറ്റിയിരിക്കുകയാണ്. ഇനി പുതിയ സാഹചര്യം പഠിച്ച ശേഷമായിരിക്കും റിസര്‍വ് ബാങ്കും നാഷണല്‍ പെയ്‌മെന്റ്‌സ് കോര്‍പറേഷനും വാട്‌സാപ്പിന് പണമിടപാടു നടത്താനുള്ള അനുമതി നല്‍കണോ വേണ്ടയോ എന്നു തീരുമാനിക്കുക. ഇത് കമ്പനിക്ക് വൻ തിരിച്ചടിയായിരിക്കുകയാണ്.

Bhumi Pednekar on reaction to Thank You For Coming, OMG 2, lack of gender equality, viewer hypocrisy
Bhumi Pednekar recently appeared in the comedy Thank You For Coming and the film invited some extreme reactions from the viewers. While some praised the film for its bold concept, some shamed it for that. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble host Akash Bhatnagar, Bhumi spoke about the latter group of people and slammed them for the shaming. She expressed her disappointment towards people who didn’t criticise the film but its intent. The actress discussed the prevalent gender bias and how people never took offence when she was a part of such stories told from a male perspective. She pointed out how Pankaj Tripathi and Akshay Kumar starrer OMG 2 was supported by the same people who shamed her film, when somewhere they dealt with the same subject. Bhumi revealed if not getting any support from women within the industry disappointed her. She highlighted the hypocrisy of the situation that people accept objectification of women but have a problem with them talking about their sexuality. You can watch the entire conversation here.
