Internet of Things (IoT) - enabled retail market could be worth it by 2025 as more and more retail businesses adopt IoT technology to improve their products and services. It is estimated that there will be over 30 billion IoT connected devices around the world by 2021. McKinsey estimates that the potential economic impact of IoT in retail environments will range from $410 billion to $1.2 trillion per year by 2025. The increasing usage of smartphones is one of the major contributors that is likely to drive the market growth along with the increase in internet penetration in developing countries such as India, China and others. Developments in new-age technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Big data are also fuelling the demand for the Internet of Things (IoT) in the ever-evolving retail market growth.
With retailers increasingly investing in IoT, customers are bound to enjoy the ‘SMART’ shopping experience through a network of connections linking the physical and digital worlds into an ecosystem of devices. Redefining Network Infrastructure
The old model of network infrastructure — centralized corporate data centers secured by an on-premise network perimeter — doesn’t work for today’s modern enterprises. Data that used to live in data centers now lives in the cloud and SaaS applications. With the rise of distributed workforces, users need to be able to connect to resources from anywhere in the world, challenging enterprises to provide network access and a secure, straight-line path to the Internet without adopting complex workarounds or increasing latency. SASE or Secure Access Service Edge is an architecture that combines necessary branch WAN edge functions including SD-WAN, routing, segmentation, zone-based firewall and WAN optimization with comprehensive cloud-delivered security services, delivered and managed in the cloud.
Cloud adoption is on the rise, and work-from-anywhere policies are now the new normal. For global organizations, this means security and connectivity need to transform with the cloud to offer consistent protection, exceptional user experience and flexibility. More enterprises are starting to leverage secure access service edge (SASE) solutions to secure uninterrupted access for their branch offices and users. SASE promises to deliver consistent security and connectivity no matter where applications, users or branch offices are located, and ZTNA(Zero Trust Network Access) can augment traditional VPN solutions. Start-ups’ losses Vs rise in capital
In India, start-ups have bought revolution and transformation in certain sectors. Although the pandemic had an impact on the number of new startups launched, which fell by 70% from 3,500 (2019) to 1,050 (2020), Indian startups recorded a total funding of $11.5 Bn, which is just 10% lower than 2019. 90% Indian startups failed within the first five years, lack of innovation being the main reason. The Indian startup ecosystem saw 924 deals in 2020, 14% higher than 2019. Indian Unicorns have been hit doubly hard with demand and liquidity crunch. At the same time, we have seen failures in growing numbers in the sectors like Logistics, e-commerce and food technology . However, the pandemic has knocked the well-known startups like Ola, Paytm, OYO, BigBasket, Zomato, Swiggy down to their knees.
India is a follower market and highlighted as the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world, but it also tops the list for failed startups. In 2020, despite many challenges due to the pandemic, Indian startups continued to battle hard, raising $9.4 billion across 881 deals, and adding 14 companies to the unicorn club. Investors and founders said the increase in deal flow is primarily led by significant liquidity in the venture capital space and overall bullishness in the technology sector across private and public markets, globally. The State Of Indian Startup Ecosystem 2020 — in an optimistic scenario, the total funding amount in 2020 would reach $11.3 Bn (which was 11% lower than 2019). So, the startup ecosystem has performed slightly better than expectations. Trends show that higher revenue increase has also resulted in higher net losses. Compared to 2020,both the funding amount and deal count will surge 19% and 13% respectively.

OT leaders face security challenges
It has been witnessed that there is an increase of 42% experienced insider breaches, which is up from 18% last year. The 2021 State of Operational Technology and Cybersecurity Report finds that operational technology (OT) leaders continue to face cybersecurity challenges, some of which were exacerbated by the shift to work from home due to the pandemic. The pandemic also accelerated IT-OT network convergence for most organizations, which correlates to other CEO reports that indicate pandemic-related changes have accelerated digital transformation, putting organizations years ahead of where they would have expected to be at this point. Facing the challenge of extending the plant environment to accommodate remote work, many organizations had to increase their technology budgets to support rapid solution deployment.
Seeking to benefit where possible from the many changes brought about by the pandemic, many OT leaders are looking for new ways to streamline processes and reduce future costs. Most OT organizations are not leveraging orchestration and automation and their security readiness was further taxed by the COVID-19 crisis. OT-IT network convergence coupled with an ever-increasing advanced threat landscape and coping with pandemic-related issues made it even more difficult for OT leaders to stay ahead of disruptive cyber adversaries. As per the report of Fortinet study highlights, OT leaders continue to see significant intrusions that affect the organization. Outages that affect productivity and revenue continue, and the risks to physical safety are rising. It's clear that many organizations face challenges when it comes to security practices and ultimately protecting their infrastructure from today's increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
