BSE benchmark Sensex has dropped by 201 points in late morning deals. The 30-share index resumed higher at 28,133.36 and later moved in a range of 28,143.28 and 27,846.57. Major losers were, Lupin , ICICI Bank, Reliance , Tata Motors, Dr Reddy , Maruti , Gail , Larsen and Cipla. The NSE 50-share Nifty also quoted lower by 72.70 points or 0.84 per cent at 8,605.55. The rupee has appreciated by 17 paise to 66.67 against the dollar today on sustained selling of the US currency by exporters and banks, with a higher opening in the equity market backing it up. Forex dealers have said the weakness in the dollar against some other currencies overseas and continued inflows by foreign funds too supported the rupee.

    Sensex has opened on positive note and surged by about 120 points to 28,144.32, bringing up gains for the second straight day on sustained foreign fund inflows and persistent buying by investors. The 30-share BSE index has been trading higher by 119.99 points, or 0.42 per cent, at 28,144.32. Sectoral indices led by realty, consumer durables, auto and FMCG led the rally, rising up to 1.13 per cent. The rupee appreciated by another 14 paise to 67 against the dollar in early trade today at the Interbank Foreign Exchange amid sustained selling of the American currency by exporters.

    The Sensex and Nifty were trading flat as investors cut down their bets on disappointing macroeconomic data despite positive global cues. The 30-share barometer fell 61.55 points or 0.21 per cent to 28,090.85 with IT, teck, consumer durables, capital goods, auto and healthcare trading in the red, falling up to 0.95 per cent. The gauge had gained 377.52 points in the previous two sessions. Market remained closed yesterday on account of Independence Day. The rupee recovered 7 paise to 66.82 against the US dollar in early trade today on selling of the dollar by exporters and banks amid a higher opening in the domestic equity market.
