  • Cyber-attacks from Chinese IPs surged by 116%

    As per the Check Point Research, there is a sharp increase in cyber-attacks aimed for NATO countries that were sourced from Chinese IP addresses, The trend before and after Russia’s invasion into Ukraine, learning that cyber-attacks from Chinese IPs jumped by 116% on NATO countries, and 72% world-wide. The observation indicates a trend that hackers, likely within China and abroad, are increasingly using Chinese IPs as a resource to launch cyber-attacks after the advent of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Check Point Research also says that it cannot attribute the cyber-attacks to the Chinese entities or to any known Chinese threat actor, as it is difficult to determine attribution in cyber security without more evidence. But what is clear is that hackers are using Chinese IPs to launch cyber-attacks world-wide, especially NATO countries. Last week, the weekly average of worldwide attacks originating from China per organization was 72% higher than before the invasion and 60% higher than the first three weeks of the conflict and the weekly average of cyber-attacks sourced from China on NATO corporate networks was 116% higher than before the invasion, and 86% higher than the first three weeks of the conflict. The increase is significantly higher than the overall global increase in cyber-attacks seen during the same timeframes. However, the trend can have many meanings like, the increase can indicate where it is now easy or cheap to set up and operate a service or where it is more opportune to hide the real origin of the attack. It can also indicate how global cyber traffic is being routed at this moment in time.

    Sixty percent of workers said new software had occasionally or frequently frustrated them within the past 24 months, according to a new survey by Gartner, Inc. In fact, 56% of users said new software had made them wish management would bring the old system back. The democratization and consumerization of IT has resulted in employees who have more discretion over what software they use and how they use it. Software product leaders often focus on adding new features to keep up with competitors, but this leads to overly complex products with poor user experience. The survey found that 81% of software users have taken some kind of action – positive or negative – after a notable experience with software. Depth of application usage can have a significant impact on the value an organization receives from software. That perceived value becomes important when renewal or upgrade time rolls around.


    The survey also found that users frequently share their opinions on software with peers, with IT and with business leaders, either proactively or in response to requests for input. This “word of mouth” can start a chain reaction that influences whether others adopt or avoid applications. 42% of survey respondents said they have complained to peers after a negative software experience, while 38% have recommended an application to peers after a positive experience. Additionally, 42% have shared negative experiences with IT, and 25% have shared those experiences with business management. Social media is also becoming an important outlet for sharing opinions on software, with 10% of respondents indicating they had left reviews on social media or review websites after a negative experience with an application. With SaaS revenue growing faster than the overall software industry, providers increasingly find themselves in a continuous purchase cycle.     The four types of data centres we see are On-premise Data Centers, Colocation Data Centers, Hyperscale Data Centers and Edge Data Centers. On-premise data centers reduce latency as they are stored within the company location, thereby ensuring higher level of data security. Whereas, Colocation Data Centers bring cost-effective methods of housing data centers as the companies need not worry about its maintenance, security, and repair. However, Hyperscale data centers are large and can house thousands or millions of data center servers. These data centers are meant to be scaled, which can be done by increasing the power of the system or adding more data center racks and equipment. Companies with large amounts of data can benefit from the scalability of hyperscale data centers. As technology is getting advanced, many are preferring to go for Edge data centers which are smaller facilities located close to the edge of the end-user network.
