सुल्तानपुर जिले के तुराबखानी में बीजेपी प्रत्याशी मेनका गांधी ने एक नुक्कड़ सभा की जिसमें उन्होंने विवादित बयान दिया. उन्होंने कहा," मैं जीत रही हूं. लोगों की मदद और प्यार से मैं जीत रही हूं. लेकिन अगर मेरी जीत मुसलमानों के बिना होगी तो बहुत अच्छा नहीं लगेगा. क्योंकि इतना मैं बता देती हूं कि फिर दिल खट्टा हो जाता है. फिर जब मुसलमान आता है काम के लिए, फिर मैं सोचती हूं कि रहने ही दो... क्या फर्क पड़ता है." मेनका ने कहा,"आखिर नौकरी सौदेबाजी भी तो होती है. ये नहीं है कि हम सब महात्मा गांधी की छठी औलाद हैं. कि हम आएंगे और केवल देते ही जाएगे, देते ही जाएंगे और इलेक्शन में मार खाते जाएंगे. ये जीत आपके बिना भी होगी,
