CAB in LS: People belonging to any religion shouldn't fear under Modi govt, says Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said people belonging to any religion should not have any fear under the Modi government as he asserted that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill would give relief to those minorities who have been living a painful life after facing persecution in neighbouring countries.Shah also said the Modi government will definitely implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) across the country and when it will be done, not a single illegal immigrant will remain in the country. In a hard-hitting reply to a debate on the proposed legislation, which seeks to give citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, Shah said there is difference between illegal immigrants and those who have come after facing religious persecution in the three neighbouring countries.► Subscribe to The Economic Times for latest video updates. Tearing the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi says, "Don't include Muslims. But why do you hate Muslims so much? What is our crime?" He also questioned why the government isn’t including minorities oppressed by China. "This law is aimed at a 2nd partition. Its worse than Hitler's law,” he said

CAB in LS: What did Amit Shah say while tabling Bill?

Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha on Monday said there is no political agenda behind the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) and there is no question of injustice with anyone. His remarks came in a discussion after the Lower House voted in favour of introducing CAB despite protests from Opposition, which labelled the legislation “regressive”. The bill was introduced with 293 Ayes and 82 Nos. Shah during the discussion also said Manipur will now come under the ambit of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, "this big issue has now been resolved".The Lok Sabha saw a war of words between Home Minister Amit Shah and the Opposition, with Shah insisting that the bill was “not even 0.001% against the minorities of the country”. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury called it “nothing but a targeted legislation over minority people of our country”, while the TMC called it "divisive and unconstitutional". The Bill was later taken up for discussion in the Lower House.
