Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) got a confirmation from the Cricket West Indies (CWI) regarding on advancement of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), by four days to accommodate the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is set to begin from September 19. After successfully finalizing the deal with the CWI, the BCCI are now set to talk with Cricket Australia (CA) and England Cricket Board (ECB) regarding the availability of foreign players for the second half of the league which will be staged in the UAE.
During the Special General Meeting (SGM) which had taken place on May 29, the BCCI were pondering over the thought to have a discussion with the boards, to make the players available from England and Australia for the eight-team tournament.
Now, with CWI agreeing to BCCI’s request, the board is confident of convincing CA and ECB to ensure foreign player participation for the reaming 31 games.
“Both IPL and CPL are important to CWI, to our cricketers and to fans. CWI’s role was to facilitate arrangements for a non-overlapping and smooth transition from one tournament to the next. Cricket administrators must collaborate if cricket is to survive the risks and costs of COVID-19,” Ricky Skerritt, the CWI President, told ESPNcricinfo.
BCCI trying to convince CA and ECB boards
The majority of the foreign players are from England and Australia, and if they give IPL a miss, then surely the eight teams will face a lot of problems. England and Australia have a packed calendar year with the former hosting Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India for the limited-overs series and Tests respectively. Apart from that, England are also set to host The Hundred tournament, which is starting on July 21.
Meanwhile, Australia are set to travel to West Indies and Bangladesh for a white-ball series. This makes it very difficult for the players from both teams to feature in the remaining IPL. On the other hand, if England and Australia players

The inaugural edition of The Hundred indeed saw some fascinating contest over the 22 yards. Many T20 stars from different parts featured in the competition and most of the games went down to the wire. Many fans and experts were also thoroughly entertained and lauded England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for organizing the competition. Following the success of the tournament, ECB’s top officials are set to share a bonus pot of £2.1million.
The sum will be divided between chief executive Tom Harrison and a handful of other officials. While the reward is described as a ‘retention tool for key senior leaders’, many believe it’s a token of appreciation for the smooth conduct of The Hundred. It has been reported that this decision has left England cricketers furious as they accepted 15 percent pay cut during the board’s financial crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the unversed, a little less than a year ago, England’s centrally-contracted cricketers received reduced salaries with the global pandemic bringing cricket activities to a standstill. Moreover, the cricket body reduced its workforce, terminating 62 employees. Hence, the news of the bonus didn’t go down well with the contracted players. In a conversation with Sportsmail, an unnamed player revealed he and his teammates are ‘very unimpressed’ by the decision.
Speaking of the ‘long-term incentive plan’ (LTIP), a county official, who sat in the discussion meeting with ECB, said the plan was introduced three years ago. “There was always this pot when the LTIP was first introduced three years ago, and everybody knew it was solely to do with the Hundred. It was to the extent where it was causing quite a lot of issues within the ECB about who was included in the LTIP and who wasn’t,” he was quoted as saying by Sportsmail.

On Monday, September 20, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that it has decided to pull out of their next month’s tour of Pakistan. The England men’s and women’s teams were scheduled to play the white-ball series in Pakistan in October. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja took to Twitter after the news arrived to express his disappointment.
Just a few days back, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) decided to pull out of their tour to Pakistan, only hours before the first game in Rawalpindi. The NZC later revealed that they had intelligence on the ground, which issued a terrorist threat looming large. Raja was disappointed then as well and had expressed this on Twitter.
After this incident, everyone expected the ECB to follow the steps of NZC to abandon their tour to Pakistan. But, in an interesting twist of events, ECB has not cited security concerns as the reason for pulling out. The board informed that it took the decision of pulling out keeping in mind the physical and mental well-being of its players.
Raja said that this is a wake-up call for the Pakistan team to become the best team in the world. “Disappointed with England, pulling out of their commitment & failing a member of their Cricket fraternity when it needed it most. Survive we will inshallah. A wake-up call for Pak team to become the best team in the world for teams to line up to play them without making excuses,” he wrote on Twitter.
The third ODI between New Zealand Women and England Women on Tuesday, September 21, at the Grace Road in Leicester is most likely to go ahead as per schedule after reports of the visitors facing security threats surfaced. BCCI has announced a 16-man squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand. As expected, Ajinkya Rahane is set to lead the side in the first Test with Cheteshwar Pujara being his deputy. The regular Test skipper Virat Kohli who is also missing the T20I series will return to play the second Test in Mumbai and take over the captaincy as well.
Rohit Sharma, the T20I skipper, has been rested for both Tests as the BCCI is looking to manage the workload and the bubble fatigue of the all-format players. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have been rested for the Test series as well keeping in mind the upcoming South Africa tour. Wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant is also not the part of the Test side with Wriddhiman Saha and KS Bharat being selected for the job behind the stumps.
Interestingly, T20I vice-captain KL Rahul and off-spinner Ravi Ashwin who are part of the T20I squad against New Zealand, have also been picked in the Test side. These are the only two players who won’t be getting any rest despite spending time in a bio-bubble since June this year.
Shreyas Iyer has been named in the Test squad and might most likely also make his debut at number four with Kohli not playing in the opening Test. There were reports of Shubman Gill also being tried in the middle-order and it remains to be seen if the managemen goes that way. Ravindra Jadeja returns to play Test matches while Axar Patel and Jayant Yadav are also part of the squad.
The pace attack, despite the absence of Bumrah and Shami is still looking threatening. Ishant Sharma will lead the attack with Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna being a part of it.

Veteran leg-spinner Imran Tahir has been left heartbroken after not being picked in South Africa’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced the 15-man contingent on Thursday (September) and there were several notable absentees.

After successfully finalizing the deal with the CWI, the BCCI are now set to talk with Cricket Australia (CA) and England Cricket Board (ECB) regarding the availability of foreign players for the second half of the league which will be staged in the UAE.
During the Special General Meeting (SGM) which had taken place on May 29, the BCCI were pondering over the thought to have a discussion with the boards, to make the players available from England and Australia for the eight-team tournament.
Now, with CWI agreeing to BCCI’s request, the board is confident of convincing CA and ECB to ensure foreign player participation for the reaming 31 games.
“Both IPL and CPL are important to CWI, to our cricketers and to fans. CWI’s role was to facilitate arrangements for a non-overlapping and smooth transition from one tournament to the next. Cricket administrators must collaborate if cricket is to survive the risks and costs of COVID-19,” Ricky Skerritt, the CWI President, told ESPNcricinfo.
BCCI trying to convince CA and ECB boards
The majority of the foreign players are from England and Australia, and if they give IPL a miss, then surely the eight teams will face a lot of problems. England and Australia have a packed calendar year with the former hosting Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India for the limited-overs series and Tests respectively. Apart from that, England are also set to host The Hundred tournament, which is starting on July 21.
Meanwhile, Australia are set to travel to West Indies and Bangladesh for a white-ball series. This makes it very difficult for the players from both teams to feature in the remaining IPL. On the other hand, if England and Australia players

The inaugural edition of The Hundred indeed saw some fascinating contest over the 22 yards. Many T20 stars from different parts featured in the competition and most of the games went down to the wire. Following the success of the tournament, ECB’s top officials are set to share a bonus pot of £2.1million.
The sum will be divided between chief executive Tom Harrison and a handful of other officials. While the reward is described as a ‘retention tool for key senior leaders’, many believe it’s a token of appreciation for the smooth conduct of The Hundred. It has been reported that this decision has left England cricketers furious as they accepted 15 percent pay cut during the board’s financial crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the unversed, a little less than a year ago, England’s centrally-contracted cricketers received reduced salaries with the global pandemic bringing cricket activities to a standstill. Moreover, the cricket body reduced its workforce, terminating 62 employees. Hence, the news of the bonus didn’t go down well with the contracted players. In a conversation with Sportsmail, an unnamed player revealed he and his teammates are ‘very unimpressed’ by the decision.
Speaking of the ‘long-term incentive plan’ (LTIP), a county official, who sat in the discussion meeting with ECB, said the plan was introduced three years ago. “There was always this pot when the LTIP was first introduced three years ago, and everybody knew it was solely to do with the Hundred. It was to the extent where it was causing quite a lot of issues within the ECB about who was included in the LTIP and who wasn’t,” he was quoted as saying by Sportsmail.

On Monday, September 20, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that it has decided to pull out of their next month’s tour of Pakistan. The England men’s and women’s teams were scheduled to play the white-ball series in Pakistan in October. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja took to Twitter after the news arrived to express his disappointment.
Just a few days back, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) decided to pull out of their tour to Pakistan, only hours before the first game in Rawalpindi. The NZC later revealed that they had intelligence on the ground, which issued a terrorist threat looming large. Raja was disappointed then as well and had expressed this on Twitter.
After this incident, everyone expected the ECB to follow the steps of NZC to abandon their tour to Pakistan. But, in an interesting twist of events, ECB has not cited security concerns as the reason for pulling out. The board informed that it took the decision of pulling out keeping in mind the physical and mental well-being of its players.
Raja said that this is a wake-up call for the Pakistan team to become the best team in the world. “Disappointed with England, pulling out of their commitment & failing a member of their Cricket fraternity when it needed it most. Survive we will inshallah. A wake-up call for Pak team to become the best team in the world for teams to line up to play them without making excuses,” he wrote on Twitter.
The third ODI between New Zealand Women and England Women on Tuesday, September 21, at the Grace Road in Leicester is most likely to go ahead as per schedule after reports of the visitors facing security threats surfaced. BCCI has announced a 16-man squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand. As expected, Ajinkya Rahane is set to lead the side in the first Test with Cheteshwar Pujara being his deputy. The regular Test skipper Virat Kohli who is also missing the T20I series will return to play the second Test in Mumbai and take over the captaincy as well.
Rohit Sharma, the T20I skipper, has been rested for both Tests as the BCCI is looking to manage the workload and the bubble fatigue of the all-format players. There were reports of Shubman Gill also being tried in the middle-order and it remains to be seen if the managemen goes that way. Ravindra Jadeja returns to play Test matches while Axar Patel and Jayant Yadav are also part of the squad.
