Watch Fight for free internet has become India's biggest talking point with netizens up in arms against telecom companies. Opposing the bid by big telecom companies who are lobbying with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to put in place a mechanism which would allow them to block apps and websites that you today use freely, and charge money from both consumers and the businesses for the same.

A good example could be this: You go to a restaurant and order a thali which is priced at 100 rupees. But when you get a bill it says 150 rupees. You have been charged 10 rupees per dish in the thali so you have ended up paying for the thali basic charges and each dish served in the vati and chapati, rice etc.
The on going net neutrality debate has caught the eye of all. In a nutshell this is what is the ongoing debate is all about and what Net Neutrality stands for.
You as a user pay to your internet service provider or ISP to access web on your computer or cell phone. internet service provider have a tie up with the Telecom government organisation - TRAI ( Telecom Regulatory Authority Of India). As per the current TRAI rules, you pay your internet service providers a fixed cost for a bandwidth between 1 mpbs to 10 mbps and any site that you visit will open as per the bandwidth that you have paid for. Same goes for any data uploaded or downloaded. Also you have the freedom to access any legal website, unlike china and Korea where the government has banned social media sites and messenger and photosharing apps This is known as Network Neutrality or Net Neutrality.
So what will change?
1. Even though you will pay your internet service provider a fixed cost for speeds between 1 mpbs to 10 mbps like you have been doing till now, TRAI will block certain websites that they feel should not be viewed just like China.

The Federal Communications Commission recently adopted strong net neutrality rules that should prevent cable and phone companies from creating fast and slow lanes on the Internet. But policy makers in other parts of the world, particularly in Europe and India, are considering very different kinds of rules that could hurt consumers and start-up Internet businesses. Last month, the European Council, which is made up of the 28 national governments of European Union members, adopted a proposal that would allow telecommunications companies to charge Internet businesses like Netflix and Google fees to deliver their videos and other content to users faster than could smaller companies that cannot afford to pay for preferential treatment. In India, the country's telecommunications regulator asked for comments on whether it should adopt a provision similar to what Europe is considering. The regulator also asked if telecom companies should be able to charge users extra fees for services like YouTube, WhatsApp and Skype on top of the fees people already pay for access to the Internet.
