It’s time to secure API Security Platform

API security is the process of securing APIs owned by the organization and external APIs used by implementing security strategies. As businesses continue embracing digital transformation, APIs (application programming interfaces) have become integral to virtually every company’s IT infrastructure. And while APIs are a great way to connect and share data between applications, they also present potential security risks.

APIs become more prevalent, when there is an increasing need for companies to ensure that their APIs are secure. API security platforms have become an essential part of any organization's cybersecurity strategy, but with so many options available, it can be difficult to know how to choose the right one.

  • Network outages

    Network outages

The Indian government has been actively promoting the use of #digitaltechnologies through various initiatives such as Digital India, Make in India, and #StartupIndia. Today we have nearly 1.2 billion consumers latch onto telecom networks.

The increase in internet and smartphone penetration in India has played a major role in the growth of the digital ecosystem. The number of internet users in India is expected to reach 800 million by 2023 but still the continuous network outage remains the 'hue and cry' affairs in the country. Network outage no longer leads merely to dropped phone calls but – potentially – to the failure of critical enterprise services.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has directed all telecom service providers to promptly inform them of any network outages and provide a detailed account of the root causes and subsequent corrective measures taken.

  • Quantum Computing Vs Generative AI

    Quantum Computing Vs Generative AI

We are witnessing the role of humans changing in a world where AI, enhanced by #quantumcomputing, has capabilities that surpass human intelligence. With the rapid evolution of these technologies, quantum computers could potentially break current encryption algorithms, it is the right time we should protect data and maintain privacy in the era of quantum-enhanced AI

Quantum computing is an emerging field of computing that leverages the principles of quantum mechanics, a branch of physics that describes the behaviour of matter and energy at very small scales. Unlike classical computers, which use bits to represent information as either 0 or 1, quantum computers use quantum bits, or qubits. Quantum computing has the potential to solve complex problems faster than traditional computing.

  • Democratizing E-commerce: The Power of ONDC

Democratizing E-commerce: The Power of ONDC

The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is a government-backed initiative in India that aims to create a unified open platform for all kinds of e-commerce transactions. It is designed to be a more open and transparent alternative to the current e-commerce landscape, which is dominated by a few large players.

#ONDC employs cutting-edge digital infrastructure, seeking to democratise digital commerce in India and make it more accessible and inclusive. More than 29,000 sellers are live on the network, and alpha tests are currently running in 236 cities.

ONDC has the potential to address some of the key concerns that users have with the current e-commerce landscape. For example, it could help to reduce prices by increasing competition. It could also make easier for small businesses to participate in e-commerce, which could lead to a wider range of products and services being available to consumers.

    Digital Footprint

Increasing your #digitalfootprint, which refers to the trail of information you leave behind when using online platforms and services, can have both positive and negative implications. All the platforms are constantly accelerating.

It is true that some individuals, including learned people, may choose to limit their digital footprint or be cautious about increasing it. While some individuals choose to limit their digital footprint, others may find value in strategically managing their online presence to enhance their professional networking, visibility, or social connections.

  • Tech talent shortages

    Tech talent shortages

There have been reports of tech talent shortages continuing amidst layoffs in some industries. While the COVID-19 pandemic has led to significant job losses in certain sectors, the demand for skilled workers in technology-related fields remains high.

Even as layoffs continue to impact the tech industry at large, there is still a critical shortage of skilled IT labour. The demand for tech talent greatly outstrips the supply, which will continue until at least 2026 based on forecast IT spend.

Tech layoffs do not mean that the IT talent shortage is over. IT spending on internal services is slowing in all industries, and enterprises are not keeping up with wage rate increases. As a result, enterprises will spend more money to retain fewer staff and will turn to IT services firms to fill in the gaps.”

This is due to several factors, including the continued growth of the tech industry, the rapid pace of technological innovation, and the increasing importance of digital transformation in businesses across all sectors. As a result, employers are often struggling to fill roles that require specialized technical skills, such as software development, data analytics, and cybersecurity.

  • Worldwide IT spending

    Worldwide IT spending

#WorldwideITspending is projected to reach $4.6 trillion in 2023 according to the latest forecast by Gartner. This represents an increase of 5.5% from the previous year. The projected growth is primarily driven by enterprise software and cloud services, as well as continued investment in IT infrastructure such as servers, storage, and networking equipment.

The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the shift towards digital transformation and remote work, which is expected to continue to drive IT spending in the coming years. However, there are also concerns about potential supply chain disruptions and inflationary pressures that could impact IT spending.

IT spending will remain strong, even as many countries are projected to have near-flat gross domestic product growth and high inflation in 2023. Prioritization will be critical as CIOs look to optimize spend while using digital technology to transform the company’s value proposition, revenue and client interactions.

Indian cos are wary of deploying ChatGPT-based bots

Recently, Jio Platforms-owned conversational artificial intelligence startup, Haptik, announced that it will integrate the underlying language model behind ChatGPT, the natural language text-generating AI tool made by Microsoft-backed OpenAI, into its services.

It, however, is not the only one. Ever since the launch of the tool for public usage and deployment last November, multiple platforms that build chatbots have begun integrating its underlying algorithm into their own products, including unicorn Gupshup.

As CIOs and tech leaders gauge the risks and rewards of models like ChatGPT, they first need to address critical friction points. At the same time, there are organisations that remain cautious in adopting the technology due to several reasons. Experts feel that AI is still in early stages of development, and the fact that it can still generate incoherent and insensitive answers is a drawback, as is the fact that the platform itself needs to be localized for Indian languages and use cases.

Experts say, technology is the easy aspect, but the governance models are very critical for emerging technologies, like generative AI, ChatGPT and others, to work effectively within an organization and come to the right outcomes.

  • Simplicity in Entertainment Experiences

    Simplicity in Entertainment Experiences

As part of its second annual global entertainment study, the survey finds 6,000 consumers including more than 500 consumers in India to understand their preferences and behaviours regarding their online entertainment experiences. 72% consumers in India said they would pay for an all-in-one platform for their entertainment services. In addition, five in six (83%) want the ability to share their streaming profiles across platforms to allow for better personalization of content.

The survey says, standalone streaming services are running up against some simple facts: There are limits to what consumers will pay for and only a certain amount of complexity and options that they are prepared to deal with. It is time to reimagine entertainment ecosystems so that media companies can move to profitable growth by helping consumers get everything they need and want.

Experts say, with growing focus on revenue over content and rising customer dissatisfaction with their media experiences, the streaming industry is at a critical stage of evolution. To stay relevant and profitable in an increasingly competitive media landscape, streaming service providers need to reimagine the entertainment ecosystem keeping in mind consumer needs for simplicity, customization and affordability.

The shifts in consumer preferences and behaviour points towards the need for aggregation. As value becomes the key determinant of success, media companies need to become more customer-centric using data and analytics. Prior to the pandemic, star presence was a big draw for video streaming content, however in the post pandemic economy story, treatment and performances have emerged as the real hero.

With an evolved audience, media companies must also invest in better stories and put greater emphasis on co-creating stories.

India To Hold Satellite Spectrum Auction

#TRAI is going to come up with a consultation paper in regards to the satellite spectrum auction. The spectrum auction should encourage and promote investment in the sector. TRAI chairman, PD Vaghela said, “It should not present any burden and that was the biggest challenge we have. 5G broadcast technology and content for various verticals can be supported through satellite systems. LEO (low-earth orbit), MEO (medium earth orbit), and GEO (geosynchronous earth orbit) satellite constellations, software-defined satellites, and steerable beams are revolutionizing the satellite industry.”

Today, Satcom also has the potential to enhance broadband penetration in India, while lowering the digital divide across India. Vaghela reveals that TRAI is in discussion with experts and regulators worldwide for a suitable model and the consultation paper will be floated after those discussions are over.

Going forward, Nanosatellites and satellite #InternetofThings (IoT) would drive the next generation of technology and such innovations are expected to enable connectivity across industries and empower it and the upcoming 6G capability. Innovations in satellite ground stations, orbital services, payloads, operational systems and artificial intelligence would enable satellites to perform more complex functions, said TRAI Chairman.

Cyber attackers next target is Cryptocurrency

The growing cases of crypto scams and #cyberattacks have affected millions of investors around the world and have also led to a decrease in the value of crypto-related stocks. According to the data gathered by CloudSEK, crypto-related cyberattacks accounted for 2.9% of all reported cyber threats in 2021 with an 8.4% increase from February to October.

#Cryptojacking is a form of cybercrime in which hackers utilize people’s gadgets (computers, cellphones, tablets, and even servers) to mine for cryptocurrencies without their permission. Crypto mining is the method of obtaining cryptocurrency through the use of high-powered computers by solving cryptographic equations.

#Hackers achieve this via infecting websites or online ads with JavaScript code that auto-executes once loaded in the victim’s browser or by convincing the victim to click on a malicious link in a customized email that loads the crypto mining code on the machine. Once the code is loaded, it executes in the background, unnoticed by the victim. The only visible signs of this are a decrease in CPU performance and slowness of the system.

Cryptocurrency investment companies are the target of a developing threat cluster that uses Telegram groups to seek out potential victims. Microsoft's Security Threat Intelligence Center is tracking the activity under the name DEV-0139, and builds upon a recent report from Volexity that attributed the same set of attacks to North Korea's Lazarus Group.

The backdoor mainly enables remote access to the host by gathering information from the targeted system and connecting to a command-and-control server to receive additional commands. The cryptocurrency market remains a field of interest for threat actors, Microsoft said. Targeted users are identified through trusted channels to increase the chance of success.

Is India vulnerable to the US recession?

By seeing the ground reality of what is happening in the world – Europe, the UK is already in a recession, and the US is heading in that direction. But the question really is will India be decoupled or not? The reality is that the Dow is down 25% and the Indian markets are flat. The S&P 500 is down 23%, the Dow is 24% and NASDAQ is 31% and we are down with 14%.

Both the US and China are currently battling a slowdown. As the economy drives with the fundamentals , in such a scenario, when two of the biggest economies in the world are facing such economic downturn, fears of recession are looking more vibrant and if that happens, then there will be spill-over effects to affect India as well.

Not just the US, inflation pressure has been felt by almost all major economies of the world ever since two significant trade routes led by Russia and Ukraine had to be shut in the wake of the war. As a result, prices of key commodities like crude oil surged to record highs making countries shed significantly more for a barrel.

America's largest bank, JPMorgan Chase's CEO Jamie Dimon said that the US could tip into a recession in six to nine months from now. He cited runaway inflation, big interest rate hikes and the Russian invasion of Ukraine as the indicators of a potential recession. He also cited the unknown effects of the US Fed's quantitative easing policy.

These are very, very serious things which he thinks are likely to push the U.S. and the world — I mean, Europe is already in recession — and they're likely to put the U.S. in some kind of recession six to nine months from now," Dimon said.

His comments come as the big U.S. banks are set to report their third-quarter earnings from Friday. So far this year, the benchmark S&P 500 index has lost about 24%, with all the three major U.S. indices trading in bear market territory.

Cloud enhancing the Media & Entertainment industry

The corporate industries and enterprises are searching for a new way to reduce the cost of usage, communication and storage. #Cloudcomputing, “on-demand” solution is an internet-based computing where information, resources, software and application services are provided on demand. Cloud computing has been adopted by many industries and the prospects seem to be promising as more and more new industries are joining the on-demand” virtual world.

One of the biggest modernizations in the industry today is cloud migration and transformation. Migrating to the cloud can help worldwide availability of Media & Entertainment content and improve user experience.

Utilizing cloud solutions allows Media & Entertainment companies to scale its infrastructure to meet usage demands. Adapting and scaling infrastructure is critical when a new show is released on a streaming platform and more eyes are on the content.

Cloud migration and transformation is not without its challenges. The complexity and mix of Media & Entertainment content deployment strategies can leave gaps in content coverage and technical knowledge.

Content and user security are vital for streaming platforms and production studios and maintaining both is a challenge. Industry leaders have found that using cloud marketplaces has helped to address these challenges.

Secondly, accessing resources via a VPN was challenging with latency issues, restricted file sizes, and a lack of collaboration tools in a distributed workforce configuration. Those limitations went well beyond those involved in production; they impacted all other organisational departments such as accounting, marketing, and human resources.

Cloud migration has many benefits; it can extend the availability of content offerings and improve user experiences. With cloud solutions, companies can scale their infrastructure to keep up with usage demands.

    Privacy over convenience

According to an IBM report titled “Global A.I. Adoption Index 2022”, over 60% of Indian companies have already been using A.I., which has been said to have increased due to the pandemic enforced digitisation, and many believe that there is no turning point from here.

There has been rapid adoption of artificial intelligence around the world and in India. The survey says only 61% of the participants are aware of what bias in artificial intelligence is. 65 % of the participants stated that they try avoiding A.I.-enabled features such as phone unlocking using face ID, digital voice assistance, etc. 55% of the participants believe that A.I. and its use is indispensable in today’s day and age. Only 17% of the participants answer yes that there are any laws in our country that govern the usage of A.I.

Experts say, while privacy concerns are usually always a major concern when using new technology, the scope and applicability of AI presents a particularly challenging scenario. Big data’s effects can be compared to AI’s in some ways. Still, AI technology has the added ability to process enormous amounts of data while also using it to learn, build adaptive models, and make actionable predictions, often without clear, comprehensible procedures.”

Tsaaro believes that the government has a significant impact on the atmosphere that allows the development of safe and ethical AI to coexist with technological advancement. A comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach is necessary to strike the correct balance because too much, the wrong kind or the wrong kind of regulation could hinder the adoption of AI or ignore its real problems.

    Government’s support to MSME

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises sector has a crucial role to play in making India a five trillion dollar economy by 2024. There is a huge pressure of inflation looming across the Indian business horizon.

While the margins of large domestic and multinational corporations have come under pressure, they still have to maintain the balance sheet to absorb raw material price shocks and the elbow room to pass on the cost to consumers. At the same time, medium small and micro enterprises, especially mom and pop stores, across India are not in the same boat as the large companies, and are far more vulnerable to the onslaught of raw material cost hikes and inflationary commodity cycles.

The sector is a prime driver of growth with their contribution to output and employment in all economies. This sector is a critical component of India's growth story, making significant contributions to GDP, employment and exports. The sector contributes in a significant way to the growth of the Indian economy — with a vast network of about 6.3 crore units producing more than 8,000 products and a share of around 30% in nominal GDP.

India’s #MSME sector continues to languish despite the pivotal role it plays in the Indian economy. With around 95 percent of all industrial units forming a part of this sector, they constitute a cornerstone for economic prosperity in our society. MSME is the second most important sector where the maximum number of people are involved.

Indian MSMEs are going through a rough patch the likes of which they have never seen before. First, due to the recurrent waves of pandemic and now the Russia-Ukraine war. Raw material price escalation has increased input costs for a wide swathe of MSMEs. To address the issue of the rising prices of raw materials, there is a need to ensure enough liquidity in the hands of MSMEs.

India is the second-largest market for VPN, with 45% of internet usage happening through VPN. There are few VPN service providers in India includes Surfshark, NordVPN, ExpressVPN, PureVPN, CyberGhost and IPVanish.

The Government’s new directions mandating all VPN providers and a few other entities to collect and hold user data for five years or more has sparked a debate in the cybersecurity community. Due to the pandemic, more individuals are working from home, which has increased the number of VPN users in the country. VPNs are used for various purposes, including securely connecting to workplace networks while working from home, accessing geo-restricted material, and just remaining anonymous. India had over 270 million VPN users in 2021, accounting for around 20% of the population. This figure is almost certainly higher now. The new guideline will impact the users as the VPN providers have no option but to leave the country. Essentially, one of the key benefits and use cases of VPNs – anonymity – will be eliminated. According to the directive of The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), the country’s cyber watchdog, has issued the directive. The new standards will take effect sixty days after they are published, which is towards the end of June. CERT-In can request this information from these service providers at any moment. Failure to provide the data will result in penalties under the Information Technology Act of 2000 and other applicable legislation.

The directions from MeitY has asked all the VPN providers to collect and record validated names of subscribers, IPs allotted to them, IP addresses, email addresses, validated addresses, contact numbers, and ownership patterns for 5 years or longer even after the customer has cancelled the registration. Corporate VPN providers have been exempted from this.

Targeted ransomware has already put every organisations on head over heels

    Ransomware industry moving steadily

Ransomware is like the current pandemic, it gives a feeling of being both distant and not dangerous, when in the midst of it you understand what it really is. You don’t know what has hit you and where to go. Ransomware has been steadily gaining ground for the last few years, but for those unaffected, it seemed to be an academic exercise. At the same time , the whole World has ended up paying ransom in the recent past. If we go by some of the ransom payments this year; $2.3 million by Travelex, Colonial Pipelines $5 million, JBS $11 million, Garmin was demanded $10 million but payment not known, Cognizant April 2021 payment not known etc. In the last two cases the data was decrypted, so you can come to your own fair judgement. This gives a clear indication of the fact that the ransomware industry is moving steadily in the direction of targeted ransomware attacks. They feel that is where the money is and they have been proven right.

The technical, social engineering and business acumen professionalism which these hackers have gained over the years have emboldened them to go in for bigger catches. They have realised that they have the skills by which they can turn the world upside down and they are doing it. Every single case proves their hypothesis. The world is just not ready to handle a crime of this nature. WannaCry was a test case of crowdsourcing ransom. Its spread was phenomenal, nobody knew what was the quantum of actual proceeds? The surprising part is, even after the ransom was paid, the copy of the data remained with them, which is then offered for further extortion; financial blackmail, sell it to business competitors; simply, make maximum money out of that data, whichever way. To add to the agony nearly 36% of the companies / victims face a second attack by the same hackers.

To cater to the increasing demand, Indian corporates like the Hiranandani Group, Adani Group; foreign investors like Amazon, EdgeConnex, Microsoft, CapitaLand, Mantra Group have started investing in Indian Data Centres. Along with them, existing players like NTT, CtrlS, Nxtra, ESDS, STT India are also expanding their capacities. Overall, 3900-4100 MW of capacity involving investments of Rs. 1.05 – 1.20 lakh crore are likely to get added in the next five years. Experts say, “The favourable regulatory support, rapidly growing cloud computing, increasing internet penetration, Government’s effort on digital economy, adoption of new technologies (IoT, 5G etc), growing needs of hyper-scalers are some of the major factors driving the demand for data centres in the country. The sector is likely to witness a five-fold increase in capacities in the next five years. In addition, the Government of India accorded infrastructure status to the data centres in the Union Budget 2022-2023. The IT ministry has plans to offer incentives worth up to Rs. 15,000 crore under a national policy framework for Data Centres. This includes an incentive of 4-6% if the components (IT hardware and power) are procured from Indian manufacturing units and incentive of up to 3% for use of renewable energy. This will enable the players to get access to longer tenured debt at competitive rates and access to foreign funding through the external commercial borrowing route.”

The industry revenues are expected to increase at a CAGR of around 18-19% during FY2022-FY2024 supported by increase in rack capacity utilisation and ramp-up of new Data Centres. W
