All four people accused in the rape and murder of woman veterinarian in Telangana have been killed in an encounter with the police. The doctor was brutally gang-raped and killed by four persons before they burnt her body in Shamshabad area on November 27. Indians killed in Iraq: Plane carrying 38 of 39 bodies to land in Amritsar at 1.30 pm
A special aircraft carrying the bodies of 38 of 39 Indians, who went missing in Mosul in June 2014 and whom the government recently declared dead, is expected to land in Amritsar on Monday. Of the 39 who died, 27 are from Punjab, four from Himachal Pradesh, two from West Bengal and six from Bihar. One body is not being brought back for now as DNA testing had only provided a 70 per cent match; the others have had more than 95 per cent match.
On Sunday, Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh left for Iraq to bring back the mortal remains of those killed. From Amritsar, Singh is expected to go to Patna, followed by Kolkata, to hand over the bodies to relatives of the dead, official sources said.
Punjab CM asks protesters to let bodies of Iraq victims be ferried without hindrance
In the wake of a bandh called by a number of Dalit organisations today to protest against the alleged dilution of the SC/ST Act, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has appealed to the protesters to let the mortal remains of the Iraq victims be ferried to their native villages without any hindrance. He has also directed the Punjab police to provide strict security for the same along the routes, from the airport to the respective native villages of the victims.
