A Chinese state-sponsored advanced persistent threat (APT) called BlackTech was caught modifying router firmware on Cisco routers to maintain stealthy persistence and pivot from international subsidiaries to corporate headquarters.
The NSA and FBI warn that a Chinese state-sponsored APT called BlackTech is hacking into network edge devices and using firmware implants to silently hop around the corporate networks of the U.S. and Japanese companies.
The attackers used a variety of methods to exploit the Cisco routers, including:
Exploiting vulnerabilities in the Cisco IOS firmware.
Using social engineering techniques to trick victims into installing malicious firmware.
Replacing legitimate firmware with malicious firmware.
Once the attackers had compromised a router, they would use it to launch further attacks on the network, such as stealing data or installing malware on other devices.

Organizations moving out of the cloud

The government on Thursday restricted the import of laptops, tablets and computers with immediate effect for security reasons and to promote domestic manufacturing. Laptops and tablets account for a fraction of India’s annual import of electronics of more than $60 billion.
The ban of import of Laptops, tablets and computers will add another layer of incentive for local manufacturing to the existing incentives worth $2 billion assured under the Productivity-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. India is targeting annual production worth $300 billion by 2026 and the restrictions on unlimited imports will compel companies like Dell, Acer, Samsung, LG Electronics, Apple, Lenovo and HP to enhance their assembling or manufacturing facilities in India.

The new crypto Ad Rules have arrived and with this the companies dealing in selling crypto assets may turn into crypto liabilities if they don’t follow the rules. Advertising of virtual digital assets and services needs specific guidance, considering that this is a new and as yet an emerging way of investing, since there is a need to make consumers aware of the risks. The Advertising Standards Council of India has introduced a set of 12 guidelines for the advertisement and promotion of virtual digital assets and services such as cryptos and non-fungible assets, almost three months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed “misleading ads” in the cryptocurrency space in November 2021. The guidelines, applicable on ads of crypto-related products from April 1, 2022, say such ads shouldn't carry the words "currency", "securities", "custodian" and "depositories". Ads should carry a disclaimer saying, "Crypto products & NFTs are unregulated and can be highly risky." Information on past performance shall not be provided in a biased manner and there may be no regulatory recourse for any loss from such transactions. The rule comes while there were commercials for cryptocurrency-related products and offerings, which have flooded TV screens over the past year promising easy money, convenient trading, fixed returns and more.
The council has specified the size of print to be used for the disclosure and the manner in which it should be broadcast through the audio-visual medium. In social media posts, such a disclaimer must be carried in the caption as well as any picture or video attachments. The disclaimer must be made in the dominant language of the advertisement. The Choice of location and flexible working hours are the top enablers for productivity in the hybrid work landscape, with nearly five in ten Indian hybrid workers considering themselves more productive when working remotely, as per the survey of Gartner. Indian workers’ use of technology has accelerated since the onset of the global pandemic in 2020. Improved digital dexterity, willingness to use real-time mobile messaging and virtual meeting solutions, along with scheduled flexibility, led to employees experiencing an uptick in their overall productivity while working from home. Indian workers reported that they gained more productivity working remotely and not dealing with pronounced traffic conditions which could span three to four hours each way. More than 40% of surveyed workers in the U.K., France and Germany indicated their productivity stayed the same, while more than 30% of Australian workers said they were more or much more productive working from home. The survey showed that Indian workers use real-time mobile messaging daily.
Of those surveyed, 83% Indian digital workers confirmed that they use real-time mobile messaging to conduct most work activities and prefer this tool over other virtual communication tools available when working remotely. Digital workplace technologies replaced in-person conversations, co-authoring content with co-workers in real-time and offline file transfers in 2020. These digital workplace technologies have now emerged as the core components of the “new work hub” which represents an evergreen collection of cloud-based, personal and team productivity technologies. More than 95% of attacks were smaller than 1Gbps each, and a majority were launched using readily available and inexpensive DDoS-for-hire services. Rather than launching large bandwidth attacks against their targets, researchers noted that perpetrators chose to employ attacks using high packet-rate loads of small-sized traffic from DDoS-for-hire services, with the aim of evading DDoS mitigation detection systems.
