“Batting-wise, I always loved watching Sachin Tendulkar. [Back then] I wasn’t the kind of player with a mindset of hitting sixes. I loved playing down the ground, singles, boundaries. I don’t know how and why I changed my mind to now mainly focusing on hitting sixes,” Rashid told Cricket Monthly.
Rashid also said he watches YouTube videos of Shahid Afridi and Anil Kumble, who both used to be quick through the air and didn’t give the ball much air. Rashid is also a bowler, who prefers beating the batters with pace and doesn’t believe in flighting the ball a lot.
“[Bowling-wise], definitely Shahid Afridi and Anil Kumble. Even at home, playing against my brothers, I was bowling quicker leg-spin [like Afridi and Kumble]. I loved watching them on TV. I still watch videos [of them] on YouTube – there are so many things I learned from them and still do,” he stated.
“I used to dream about these three players and imagine being them. We didn’t have a proper Afghanistan team back then and there were no hopes for us to be international cricketers, so watching them was great. And now when I meet them, it is more than a dream,” Rashid added.

The former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has hit back at the interim head coach of Pakistan Abdul Razzaq for his recent comments on the Indian cricket team. The former allrounder had said that Pakistan is way ahead of India in terms of talent. He also spoke about the T20 World Cup match later this month between the two arch-rivals.
Kaneria dismissed the comments made by Razzaq and said that there is in fact no comparison between India and called his statements as ‘nonsense’. As per reports, two senior batters of team India called up BCCI secretary Jay Shah expressing their opinions on Kohli’s captaincy. The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Ramiz Raja has accused Australia of playing ‘happily’ against India without their usual aggressive approach. The 59-year-old also said that the Aussie players have even changed their DNA for the sake of the money they make by playing in the IPL.

On Monday, September 20, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that it has decided to pull out of their next month’s tour of Pakistan. The England men’s and women’s teams were scheduled to play the white-ball series in Pakistan in October. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja took to Twitter after the news arrived to express his disappointment.
Just a few days back, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) decided to pull out of their tour to Pakistan, only hours before the first game in Rawalpindi. The NZC later revealed that they had intelligence on the ground, which issued a terrorist threat looming large. Raja was disappointed then as well and had expressed this on Twitter.
After this incident, everyone expected the ECB to follow the steps of NZC to abandon their tour to Pakistan. But, in an interesting twist of events, ECB has not cited security concerns as the reason for pulling out. Former Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar has expressed his displeasure over the squad selected for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup scheduled to begin in Oman and UAE from October 17. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the squad earlier this week and there were few notable omissions in form of few experienced players like Shoaib Malik, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Fakhar Zaman.

Mohammad Wasim is not a chief selector, he is just a puppet,” said Akhtar to Cricket Pakistan.
In the light of the same events, some reports added that India didn’t play solely due to the commencement of the second leg of IPL 2021. As IPL 2021 is all set to kick off on September 19, few reports added that India are not willing to push the dates of the final Test.
