The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has urged for a ‘trusted source’ approval mandate to be applied on all network elements including connected devices, in order to ensure a uniform level of security. The current equipment used for non-licenced telecom services do not require following the trusted source mandate, but the potential for harm being caused by malware or virus is still large.
The telecom industry wants equipment like routers, switches, sensors and smart meters used in unlicensed communication and services like wifi also be included under the trusted source mandate.

Consumers and enterprises are facing very different economic realities. While inflation is devastating consumer markets, contributing to layoffs at B2C companies, enterprises continue to increase spending on #digitalbusiness initiatives despite the world economic slowdown.
A turbulent economy has changed the context of business decisions and can cause CIOs to become more hesitant, delay decisions or reorder priorities. We’ve seen this in action with the reshuffling taking place among some B2B companies, especially those that overinvested in growth. However, IT budgets are not driving these shifts, and IT spending remains recession-proof.
The software and #ITservices segments are projected to grow 9.3% and 5.5% in 2023, respectively. The devices segment is forecast to decline 5.1% this year as both consumers and enterprises lengthen device refresh cycles.

They are getting smarter, more organized, and more targeted in pursuing their objectives — whether that be for money, fame, or a political cause. In addition, cybercriminals are shifting their attack patterns — from leveraging larger attack vectors to combining multiple vectors in more complex-to-mitigate campaigns. Ransomware operators and their affiliates, which now include DDoS-for-hire actors, are working with a whole new level of professionalism and discipline — something that we have not seen before.
As more businesses migrate critical resources and applications to the public cloud, attackers are adapting their tactics and techniques to match the scale of public cloud providers. While enterprises should not be immediately alarmed by reports of huge attacks, they do need to be aware that DDoS attacks are a part of their threat landscape, irrespective of their geography or industry. Billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Jio on Wednesday slammed telecom industry body COAI for its "threatening and blackmailing" tone in its communication to the government on non-existent crisis in the sector following the Supreme Court ruling on payment of statutory dues.
