The top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee said Thursday that the State Department and Huma Abedin, the wife of former congressman Anthony Weiner, have put up “a stone wall” in the face of his inquiry about her final months at the agency, and vowed to continue raising questions about Abedin’s employment status.
“So far, the State Department and Ms. Abedin haven’t provided a single document that I requested,” Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) said in a statement. “Putting up a stone wall raises a lot more questions about how the program is being used than it answers. I intend to pursue more complete answers to my questions.”
At issue is the employment status Abedin used at the State Department during the final eight months of her tenure there. Abedin, a longtime aide to Hillary Clinton, served as deputy chief of staff in then-Secretary Clinton’s office from early 2009 until June 2012, when she became a “Special Government Employee” for the remainder of her time at the department. She left the agency in February.
Abedin’s new position allowed her to function as a contractor, continuing to work for the State Department as she also took on work for three outside clients: Clinton’s transition office, the William J. Clinton Foundation and Teneo Holdings, a company founded by Doug Band, who worked in the White House counsel’s office under Bill Clinton.

Perhaps the most striking part of Anthony Weiner’s news conference Tuesday was that he wasn’t the only one who spoke. Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, vouched for her husband in no uncertain terms, after he acknowledged that he engaged in sexually explicit online conversations even after resigning from Congress.
Turns out Abedin’s support did virtually nothing to help or hurt Weiner’s chances in the New York City mayor’s race, according to one survey.
A WNBC/Marist/Wall Street Journal poll released Thursday shows that three of four New York City Democrats (73 percent) said Abedin’s support makes no difference in how much they trust Weiner as a mayoral candidate. And nearly as many Democrats said her support makes it less likely (12 percent) they will trust him as said it makes them more likely (15 percent) to trust him as a candidate.
The poll does not measure who did or did not watch the news conference, which was widely covered in local and national media. And the survey was conducted over just one day (Wednesday), a less-than-ideal sampling period.
It’s also possible that Abedin’s appearance may function like an endorsement. People say they are not affected by them, but sometimes the effect is subconscious, or people don’t want to admit it.
Time will tell what the ultimate effect is on Weiner’s image. But the early data show that the most unexpected part of Weiner’s news conference may also be the least consequential.By Rajan| 524 views

Sydney Leathers, a 23-year-old woman who says she exchanged lewd text messages with New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner, told Inside Edition's Jim Moret that she wants to apologize to Huma Abedin, Weiner's wife.
"I just feel very, very sorry for my part and the pain that she obviously feels," the self-described "political junkie" said, through tears.
Abedin offered her support for Weiner Tuesday, admitting their relationship has had "its ups and its downs" but concluding, "I love him, I have forgiven him, I believe in him and, as we have said since the beginning, we are moving forward."
Leathers also said that Weiner had told her he loved her, and that she thought Weiner was jealous when other men posted comments on her Facebook photos.
Weiner stated Tuesday that only some allegations against him are true, but would not elaborate.
On Thursday, he admitting to engaging online with six to 10 women, including three after resigning from Congress.

Wow. The lead story in the New York Post Thursday morning does something that tabloid rarely does these days, which is makes you look twice and and ask friends if they saw it: Huma Abedin, snapped in the street looking slick and unsympathetic in shades and on her phone, with the headline:
The colloquial idiom, unusually funny for the Post, crosses the line from mutterings about Abedin being loyal to a fault, which posher media have been issuing for days, to full-scale "blaming the victim" – shifting the focus to the wife, whose support of her husband at his toe-curling press conference this week was widely taken as Too Bloody Much.
The narrative of Abedin-the-Saint and Weiner-the-Scoundrel has never been terribly convincing. Their joint PR drive to salvage his reputation prior to running for mayor was, even by the standards of these things, tediously smooth and nakedly cynical. Even at the time, with Weiner in full repentance mode, that New York Times interview with him three months ago presented as unpalatably calculating.
Personally, I couldn't get much past the photo. It was supposed to illustrate the couple's solidarity, working together in their shared home office, but there was something off about the scene. Earlier this week, new details surfaced about Weiner continuously sending sexually explicit messages to women on the Internet, even after he resigned from Congress and sat for a redemptive People magazine spread with his wife and newborn son.
To make matters even more ridiculous, Weiner reportedly used the alias Carlos Danger online. The name has been mocked everywhere and the Post ran a lackluster cover on Tuesday with the headline, "MEET CARLOS DANGER."
