A man who allegedly killed a woman and injured 16 others as his car ploughed into them on a Los Angeles beach has been charged with murder and assault.
Nathan Louis Campbell, 38, of Colorado, could face life in prison if convicted.
He drove a car into pedestrians after steering round a vehicle barrier on to the boardwalk at Venice Beach on Saturday evening, prosecutors said.
Honeymooning Italian tourist Alice Gruppioni, 32, was struck by the Dodge Avenger and died.

A motorist pleaded not guilty Tuesday to one count of murder and multiple other charges, three days after he allegedly drove his car into pedestrians at the famed Venice Beach Boardwalk in California, killing an Italian honeymooner.
Nathan Louis Campbell, 38, is charged with murder, 16 counts of assault with a deadly weapon and 17 counts of hit-and-run, said Deputy District Attorney Gary Hearnsberger.
The charges include the special allegation of use of a deadly weapon, a car. Campbell, who was being held on $1.48 million bail, could face a life sentence if convicted.
Campbell, wearing a blue jail jumpsuit at his arraignment, was handcuffed at the waist and wrists.
When asked whether he wanted to waive his right to a speedy trial, Campbell answered, "Yes, sir" during the brief appearance.
His court-appointed attorney, Philip Dube, said his client was "very distraught" over the incident, but did not deliberately strike anyone.
"I don't believe he intentionally tried to hit anybody, based on my cursory review of the case and my discussions with the D.A.," said Dube.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Keith L. Schwartz set the next hearing for September 4. He and attorneys will discuss scheduling a preliminary hearing.

Harrison Ford injured in Los Angeles Plane Crash News Video
The 72-year-old actor was at the helm of a vintage two-seater fighter plane when a mechanical failure occurred and his aircraft crashed into the Penmar Golf Course.
Mr Ford, best known for his roles as Han Solo in Star Wars and for playing Indiana Jones, reportedly suffered multiples gashes to his head and was left bleeding.
US celebrity website TMZ reported that two doctors who happened to be at the golf course in Venice rushed over to treat the actor who survived the crash.
Emergency personnel soon arrived at the scene and Mr Ford was transported to a nearby hospital.
Witnesses said the Tinseltown icon had to be helped out of the plane but claimed that he was able to use his legs.
At a news conference the LA Fire Department said the pilot, who they would not name, had "suffered some moderate trauma, was breathing, conscious and alert".
They added that he was in a "fair to moderate" condition following the incident which happened around 2:25pm local time.
An earlier post from the LA Fire Department on Twitter claimed the pilot of the plane was in a critical condition - but that was later revised.
They tweeted: "1 small aircraft down on Penmar Golf Course near the Santa Monica airport.
"Solo occupant, an adult male being transported to local hospital in critical condition.
"No other injuries."
