The state government has also been implementing the important central schemes like Janani Suraksha Yojana effectively here" said Sonia Gandhi.

To boost the confidence of my sisters, the Central government has taken various steps and through Self Help (SHG) scheme, we ensured loan at a lower rate of 4% for them. To ensure that no one in our country lives in hunger, we intend to bring Food Security Bill. We would have got this bill passed much earlier but could not do so as the opposition parties created hurdles. It is very unfortunate that, these parties have made this a habit to block all welfare measures of the Congress government".

Congress President and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi laid the foundation stone of two units of 660 MW each at the super thermal power plant at Suratgarh in Rajasthan. While addressing the gathering Sonia Gandhi slammed the opposition for blocking the welfare measures by the Congress-led Government at the Centre and assured that Congress is determined to carry on with its pro-poor measures. "The first priority of the Congress governments, across the country, has been to ensure electricity to entire villages. I am very happy that the present state government effectively putting efforts in this direction and as a result, the people, especially the farmers, are not facing many difficulties at present. With an intention to save the people, both in urban and rural areas, from hefty electricity bills, the state Government has distributed more than one crore CFL bulbs, free of cost." Said Sonia Gandhi.
