JAMMU LINKS NEWS | Two BSF personnel, including an officer, were today martyred as Pakistani Rangers targeted Indian posts along the IB here with mortars and firing, a violation which comes nearly a week after DGMOs of both countries agreed to implement the ceasefire pact of 2003 in "letter and spirit".
The heavy firing and mortar shelling from across the border in Pragwal area of Akhnoor and nearby Kanachak and Khour sectors also left 10 persons, including a policeman and a woman injured, and forced people to abandon their homes and rush for safer places.

Gujjars hold protest against J&K forest minister
JAMMU: A large number of people belonging to the Gujjar community today held protest outside Jammu and Kashmir Forest Minister Chaudhary Lal Singh's residence here against eviction of people, especially members of their tribe, from forest belts.
Led by Nazakat Khanna, people belonging of the nomadic tribe led sheeps and goats in front of the minister's house and blocked the road.
The protesters demanded that the government allow all people in forest areas and not evict Gujjars from forest lands.
Police said that they had to resort to mild baton charge to disperse the protesters.

Rajasthan assembly passes Bill to grant 5% reservation to Gujjars, 4 other castes
The Rajasthan Assembly Wednesday passed a bill giving a five per cent quota in government jobs and educational institutes to the Gujjars and four other communities agitating for it. The Gujjar protests led by community leader Kirori Singh Bainsla continued in the state for the sixth day even after the bill was passed. Gujjar protesters have blocked the Delhi-Mumbai railway track in Sawai Madhopur district and several highways since Friday. Traffic is also held up on several roads in the state.
