    NC, Cong walkout over rehabilitation of people affected by power projects in Jammu

    Members of the National Conference and Congress today staged a walkout from the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly over the issue of rehabilitation of people affected from the power projects in Kishtwar-Doda-Ramban belt.

    The opposition members, led by NC member Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo, raked up the issue of construction of power projects and failure of the government to rehabilitate the people affected by such projects.

    Kitchloo and other members walked into the Well of the House, raising anti-government slogans as the chairman of Legislative Council Haji Anayat Ali rejected their demand for a reply from the government about the plight of people who have been affected by the construction of power projects on river Chenab and other tributaries.

    NC stages walkout from Assembly over power crisis

    Opposition National Conference (NC) today staged a walkout from the Assembly alleging that the state government had failed to provide electricity supply to the snow-bound areas of Kashmir.

    As soon as the House assembled in the morning, NC MLA Ali Mohammad Sagar stood up and raised the issue which, he said, had "exposed" the government's claims.

    "There are several areas in Kashmir which are without electricity for the past 2-3 days. The snowfall has exposed the claims of the government in providing basic facilities to the people of the state," Sagar said.

Several National Conference and Congress members today staged a walkout from the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly over the government's "unsatisfactory reply" on the issue of power crisis in the state and border shelling which has claimed 12 lives since Thursday.

NC MLA Ali Mohammad Sagar was the first to leave the House and was followed by party legislators Altaf Kaloo and Javaid Rana and Congress members Vikar Rasool, Usman Majeed and G M Saroori.

    JAMMU LINKS NEWS | Fresh landslide in Udhampur district forced the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu highway on Monday.

    A Traffic Department official said no traffic would be allowed on the highway following the landslides that occurred on Kheri road in Udhampur.
