He took many by surprise with his unscheduled sudden visits to villages, interacting with the locals and even staying at their huts. He had visited Forbesganj in Bihar and Mawal in Maharashtra where people died of police firing. When Kalka mail accident had taken place he immediately had visited the hospital to meet the accident victims. He had visited Bharatpur in Rajasthan where ten people from minority community were killed in the clash with the police. His recent visit to Muzaffarnagar alongwith PM and his mother Sonia Gandhi is known to all. All these interventions helped to bring a confidence among the people and gave them a hope that there is someone who stands with them and helps them in crisis.
