"Nine months have gone by and they (people of Andhra Pradesh) are beginning to feel they have been taken for granted," Sonia Gandhi said, adding, she has written to the Prime Minister twice "requesting him to speed up implementation of commitments" that were made through the Act that endorsed the division of the state.

    Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday while initiating a debate in the Parliament accused Narendra Modi government of failing to fulfil commitments made to the people of Andhra Pradesh when Telangana was carved out of it, a charge rejected by the government. She further said the 14th Finance Commission has not done "full justice" to the needs of the state and accused the government of "sadly" not doing anything "substantial" for funding the new capital for the state.

Participating a crucial debate in Parliament, Congress president Sonia Gandhi accused the Narendra Modi government of neglecting Andhra Pradesh and demanded that the state be helped in creating a grand capital as soon as possible. Speaking on the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2015, in the Lok Sabha, Sonia Gandhi said the state was suffering from revenue deficit. "The people of Andhra Pradesh are deeply anguished over the apathy shown by this government," Sonia Gandhi said, adding that she has written twice to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue. "Like every other state, Andhra Pradesh should also have a grand capital but nothing substantial has been provided," she said. After Hyderabad went to Telangana, the state government is planning a new capital near Vijayawada.
