The Transylvanian naked neck chicken or sometime referred to as a Turken is an interesting breed of chicken. They have this unique looks that makes you do a double take when you see one. Is it a chicken or a turkey? These chickens are very rare in the United States. The Naked Neck looks like someone bred a turkey and a chicken and many people think this is a hybrid, but it is not.
This unique breed of chicken was originally from Transylvania, giving them the name Transylvanian Naked Neck Chickens. Germany also has a large population of "Turkens". Naked Necks are much more common in European countries as well. These birds have a dominant trait that so when bred to other chicken breeds you can get some interesting hybrids. In 1965 Naked Neck Chickens became a recognized breed by the American Poultry Association. Other breeds of the naked neck include the French naked neck which looks similar to the Transylvanian Naked Neck Chicken. દર વર્ષની જેમ આ વર્ષે પણ શિયાળામાં હજારોની સંખ્યામાં યાયાવર પક્ષીઓ ગુજરાતના મહેમાન બન્યા છે. પક્ષી અભ્યારણ્ય તરીકે જાણીતું કડીનું થોળ તળાવ છેલ્લા બે માસથી ફ્લેમિંગો અને ગુલાબી પેણ જેવા વિદેશી પક્ષીઓથી ઊભરાઈ રહ્યું છે. સાત કિમીની ત્રિજ્યામાં ફેલાયેલુ આ તળાવ વર્ષોથી યાયાવર પક્ષીઓને આકર્ષતું રહ્યું છે. નવેમ્બર મહિનાથી આ તળાવ ખાતે ઉમટી પડતા વિદેશી પક્ષીઓ છેક માર્ચના અંત સુધી અહીં રોકાણ કરે છે. હાલમાં આ તળાવ પક્ષીઓના કલરવથી ગૂંજી ઉઠતા રોજના હજારો લોકો આ તળાવની મુલાકાત લઈ રહ્યા છે.
ગુજરાતનું શિયાળાનું વાતાવરણ વર્ષોથી વિદેશી પક્ષીઓમાં પ્રિય રહ્યું છે. આ કારણે ન્યૂઝીલેન્ડ અને યુરોપના દેશોમાંથી દર વર્ષે હજારોની સંખ્યામાં પક્ષીઓ ગુજરાતમાં શિયાળો ગાળવા આવે છે. જો કે, વિદેશી પક્ષીઓને બેટવાળા સ્થળો વધુ પસંદ હોવાથી આ પક્ષીઓમાં કડીનું થોળ તળાવ મહત્ત્વનું આશ્રયસ્થાન બની રહ્યું છે. આ પક્ષીઓ શિયાળાના ચાર મહિના અહીં જ ગાળે છે અને માર્ચના અંત સુધી આ પક્ષીઓ આ તળાવ ખાતે જ રોકાણ કરે છે. આ વર્ષે એક અંદાજ મુજબ 60 હજાર કરતા વધારે વિદેશી પક્ષીઓ થોળ તળાવના મહેમાન બન્યા છે.
