Kristen Bell And Dax Shepard Put Their Real-Life Love In 'Hit & Run'
If there's one R-rated, car-chase action/comedy you see all year, make it "Hit & Run," which opens in theaters Wednesday (August 22).
The plot revolves around former getaway driver Charlie Bronson (Dax Shepard), who busts out of the Witness Protection Program to drive his girlfriend (Kristen Bell) to Los Angeles so she can land her dream job. Their road trip becomes increasingly complicated and dangerous when they are chased by the feds (led by Tom Arnold) and later Charlie's former gang of criminals (led by Bradley Cooper). Also, according to writer/director/actor Shepard, you'll miss out on some bona fide genre-breaking if you don't go see it.
"I don't say this in a bragging way, but it is definitely a genre-breaker," Shepard told MTV News. "It's got a lot of different things. It's really, really, really funny, and there are sweet car jumps in it, and then ultimately there's this really nice love story happening between Kristen and I," he explained.
"There's a lot of real moments between us that we're letting people sort of see into," added Shepard's co-star and real-life fiancée Kristen Bell. Kristen Bell and her fiance Dax Shepard got a chance to work together recently on Shepard's film "Hit & Run" and not only did the couple enjoy the experience of being together on set every day, Bell also admitted she found Shepard to be cute as the film's director.
The couple hit the red carpet premiere of the film earlier this month and got cozy with each other during interviews. The two admitted they even gross themselves out with how loving they can be.
"We get that way sometimes. We're in public just nuzzling up and then we're like eww," Bell told OnTheRedCarpet.com.
The couple, who became engaged in 2010 and have been dating for five years, star in "Hit & Run" as a couple on the run. Shepard plays a former getaway driver named Charlie Bronson who jeopardizes his Witness Protection Plan identity in order to help his girlfriend (Bell) get to Los Angeles. A U.S. Marshal and Charlie's former gang chase them on the road.
While the two noted there is "geriatric nudity" in the movie, Bell said she adored Shepard as a director.
"I mean I thought this was cute by itself, but then to see him in the director's chair it was overwhelming," she said.

Pardon the clichés for a minute. I can’t help myself. Dax Shepard’s “Hit & Run” doesn’t just lose the drag race. It doesn’t just blow a flat tire or run out of gas. Think of all the Shalit-esque puns you can about a disastrous experience in a car and apply them to this lurching mess of five or six movies that aspires to be Tarantino-esque but completely misses its mark. There are a number of likable people in “Hit & Run” and they’ll walk away clean from this accident but audiences will want to quickly forget they ever took the ride.
Shepard wrote, co-directed, and stars as Charlie Bronson, a name his character chose for himself when he entered the witness protection program after testifying against a notorious criminal played by Bradley Cooper. Bronson has been living peacefully in a small town with his lovely girlfriend Annie (Kristen Bell) while occasionally meeting with his irritable WitSec Officer Randy (Tom Arnold). When Annie gets an amazing job opportunity in Los Angeles, Charlie decides to take the risk of traveling with her out of his protective bubble. When Annie’s ex Gil (Michael Rosenbaum) gets suspicious enough about Charlie to blow his cover online and get the bad guys back after him, a “True Romance”-esque journey across country ensues.
