Star Trek: The Original Series 46th Anniversary marked by Google doodle

The 46th Anniversary of Star Trek: The Original Series is honoured by an interactive Google doodle featuring characters from the iconic science fiction series.

Each of Google's letters is marked by a Star crew member with a storyline weaved into the doodle taking cues from the episode and the show. The letter 'G' in the Google logo is Spock, one if the most memorable character from the series. The first 'O' represents the character of Nyota Uhura and the second 'O' features Captain James T Kirk, the commanding officer of the USS Enterprise. The letter 'L' resembles Hikaru Sulu.

Googlers will have to make their way throughout the doodle to uncover the story. The doodle begins in the bridge of the Starship Enterprise. Clicking on the red door helps 'O' and 'E' go out to the transporter room. Clicking the main console in the room beams them to an unfriendly planet where they are challenged by an alien.

Users can click on the nearby tree to attack the alien and another object towards the top to completely defeat the extra terrestrial. On defeating the enemy they return to the Enterprise. The doodle ends with the USS starship Enterprise moving past the screen in space and the word Google appearing in yellow, written in pure Star Trek style. The iconic instrumental theme from Star Trek by Alexander Courage plays in the background.

Claude Debussy's birthday marked by a Google doodle

Claude Debussy, celebrated French music composer, is the subject of Thursday's Google doodle across the world. Debussy is remembered as one of the most prolific figures associated with impressionist music.

Google's animated doodle presents a moonlit riverside scene set to the tunes of Clair de lune (3rd movement from Suite bergamasque) or Moonlight, one of Debussy's best music pieces. The moonlight riverside scene features a star studded sky, flickering streets lights and chimney smoke rising to the tunes of the piece, in addition to a windmill, boats, cycles, cars and balloons.

The scene moves forward to depict rain falling on the river and concludes with two different boats crossing paths and the rowers sharing a red coloured umbrella.

Claude Debussy was born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, in France on 22 August 1862. He started taking piano lessons in Cannes at the age of seven, where he had moved with his mother during the Franco-Prussian war. Debussy entered the Paris Conservatoire in 1872, where he spent 11 years.

In 1884 Debussy received the Prix de Rome honour for his composition L'enfant prodigue, and a scholarship to the Académie des Beaux-Arts, that featured a four-year residence at the Villa Medici, the French Academy in Rome, to pursue his studies, further. However, he found the the atmosphere at Villa Medici stifling, and left within a year, though he did compose four pieces that were sen

Hermann Rorschach's 129th birthday marked by interactive inkblot Google doodle

Hermann Rorschach's 129th birthday is being celebrated by Google through an interactive doodle.

Born on 8 November 1884 in Zurich, Switzerland, Hermann Rorschach was a Freudian psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, best known for inventing a projective test known as the Rorschach inkblot test.

The inkblot test - or the Rorschach test - is a psychological test using which a person's interpretations of inkblots are recorded and assessed through psychological interpretation, complex algorithms, or both. The test is used by psychologists to analyse a person's personality traits and emotional functioning. It's also used for detecting underlying thought disorders, especially when individuals are hesitant to talk about their thinking processes openly.

Friday's interactive Google doodle honouring Hermann Rorschach features different inkblot patterns that can be browsed by clicking on them or on the navigation array keys. The doodle also features a 'Share what you see button' that allows you to share your interpretation of the inkblot on Google+, Facebook and Twitter. The doodle also features a sketch of Hermann Rorschach sitting and making notes.

Hermann Rorschach was fond of klecksography, the art of making inkblots since his school days. He later studied under the guidance of eminent psychiatrist Eugen Bleuler. He first started psychoanalysis through inkblots by analysing response of school ch

Winter Solstice marked in Google Doodle

Google's latest doodle marks the first day of winter, otherwise known as the winter solstice, which is the shortest day and longest night of the year.

The solstice, regarded as the beginning of the winter season, occurs when the Earth's axial tilt is farthest away from the sun. For the next six months, the days will continue to grow longer as the sun spends more time above the horizon.

Hundreds of people, including modern day druids and pagans, are expected to turn out as usual to celebrate the date at Stonehenge, where they will watch sun rise in perfect alignment with the stones.

This year's winter solstice at the site is a little different, coming only three days after the opening of the first phase of a £27m rebuild of facilities at the prehistoric site in Wiltshire. Demand to take part in the annual celebrations, which have already been attracting increasing numbers, had been expected to beat all previous years.

Although this is the most expensive capital project yet undertaken by English Heritage, the organisation has been concerned not to imply there is any greater capacity for visitors who want to join the druid and pagan ceremony among the stones. Three years ago, only 2,000 people attended winter solstice; in 2012 more than 5,000 turned up.

Elsewhere, a lucky 120 people will get the privilege of standing inside Newgrange tomb in County Meath, Ireland, to witness the remarkable

New Year's Eve 2013 marked by an animated Google doodle

New Year's Eve 2013 has inspired the last doodle of the year. Upon hovering the mouse over this animated doodle, the text Happy New Year! is displayed.

Tuesday's doodle features numbers 2, 0, 1, and 3 on the dance floor with the number 4 waiting along the sides, waiting for its turn to replace 3. The dance floor is made up of little squares that are changing colours, designed to represent the floor lights in various colours. The word Google is seen sandwiched between two speakers, with the second O replaced by a disco ball.

Also present on the Google home page is the text "What did the world search for this year? Remember the moments of 2013", with a link to the Google Zeitgeist 2013. This has of course been seen for a while, and is not a new addition.

Though the latest Google doodle looks interactive, we tried various browsers and we couldn't get the doodle to do anything except show Google search results for New Year's Eve 2013. The first result is a Google search card that says, "Tuesday, December 31 New Year's Eve 2013", similar to what you get while searching for other important days like Diwali 2013 on Google India, or Memorial Day 2013 on the Google US homepage.

The rest of the page looks like any other Google results page, with news, image and search results for the query New Year's Eve 2013. Many search results refer to fireworks planned on New Year's Ev

Clara Schumann's 193rd birth anniversary is the subject of the latest Google doodle. Clara Schumann was a German musician and composer. She was born on September 13, 1819 and was considered to be one of the most distinguished pianists of the Romantic era.

Maria Montessori's 142nd birth anniversary has become the subject of the latest Google doodle. Maria Montessori was an Italian physician and educator, best known for the philosophy of education which bears her name. Her educational methods are in use today in public and private schools throughout the world.

The Google doodle itself represents various tools that form an integral part of Montessori education methods.

Maria Montessori was born on August 31, 1870, in Chiaravalle, Italy. Her family later moved to Rome in 1875, where she was enrolled in a public elementary school when she was 6. Montessori was not a particular brilliant student early on, but that during her teens. She graduated from the technical school Regia Scuola Tecnica Michelangelo Buonarroti at the age of 20 and decided to study medicine further on, which was unheard of for females at the time.

After completing a pre-qualification course and overcoming a lot of hurdles, Maria Montessori enrolled for the medical program at the University of Rome in 1893. Here troubles didn't end there, as she faced discrimination from fellow students and faculty because of her gender. But Montessori carried on, winning an academic prize in her first year, and later securing a position as a hospital assistant, gaining early clinical experience. In her last two years she studied paediatrics and psychiatry, and worked in the paediatric consulting room and emergency service,
