Despite improved festive demand, GST collection remained below Rs 1 lakh crore in October. GST collection rose to Rs 95,380 crore in October against Rs 91,916 crore in September, but it was still 5.29 per cent less in comparison to Rs 1 lakh crore collected in the same month last year. This is yet another month in a row when GST mop-up has slipped below Rs 1 lakh crore. Hit by consumption slowdown, the tax collections have been subdued in the last few months.

EU's reluctance stuck FTA talks; bloc had other priorities: EAM Jaishankar | Economic Times

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said negotiations for a free trade agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union were stuck for the last six years due to reluctance of the grouping. He asserted India has nothing in principle against free trade agreements or preferential trade agreements. Reiterating the reason behind India pulling out of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) last year, Jaishankar said it had to take the decision as its concerns were not addressed. The minister was virtually participating in the sixth edition of Mediterranean Dialogues (MED 2020) on Friday. Watch highlights from EAM Jaishankar's remarks. (Text: PTI)

Putin asks his govt to start mass COVID-19 vaccinations in Russia next week

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday asked Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova to start mass vaccination against the coronavirus next week. "I know that we have manufactured or will have manufactured more than 2 million doses [of vaccine] of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine in the next few days, it was the first in the world to be registered. This allows us to start large-scale vaccination, if not a mass one, and of course, as we had agreed, it would concern the two at-risk groups first of all, doctors and teachers," Putin said.Watch Putin asks his govt to start mass COVID-19 vaccinations in Russia next week With HD Quality
