Scientists Say Baby Born With HIV Apparently Cured
A baby born with the virus that causes AIDS appears to have been cured, scientists announced Sunday, describing the case of a child from Mississippi who's now 2½ and has been off medication for about a year with no signs of infection.
There's no guarantee the child will remain healthy, although sophisticated testing uncovered just traces of the virus' genetic material still lingering. If so, it would mark only the world's second reported cure.
Specialists say Sunday's announcement, at a major AIDS meeting in Atlanta, offers promising clues for efforts to eliminate HIV infection in children, especially in AIDS-plagued African countries where too many babies are born with the virus.
"You could call this about as close to a cure, if not a cure, that we've seen," Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institutes of Health, who is familiar with the findings, told The Associated Press.
A doctor gave this baby faster and stronger treatment than is usual, starting a three-drug infusion within 30 hours of birth. That was before tests confirmed the infant was infected and not just at risk from a mother whose HIV wasn't diagnosed until she was in labor.
"I just felt like this baby was at higher-than-normal risk, and deserved our best shot," Dr. Hannah Gay, a pediatric HIV specialist at the University of Mississippi, said in an interview.

पिडीत महिलेला पतीकडून एचआयव्हीची लागण झाली होती. एड्सनं पतीचं निधन झाल्यावर न खचता तिनं पुन्हा उभारी घेतली. 2010 साली पिडीत महिला सेंटाॅर या फार्मा कंपनीत नोकरीला लागली. प्रॉडक्शनला ज्युनियर अॉपरेटर पदी रुजू झाली. पिडीतेनं पाच वर्षे कंपनीत चांगलं काम केलं. यावेळी पिडितेला एचआयव्हीची लागण झाल्याचं कंपनीच्या निदर्शनास आलं. त्यामुळं कंपनीनं एचआयव्हीग्रस्त असल्यानं नोकरीतून काढून टाकलं.
या पीडित महिलेनं न खचता कंपनीला न्यायालयात खेचलं. तीन वर्षांच्या न्यायालयीन लढाईत पिडीतेनं यश मिळवलं. कामगार न्यायालयानं पिडितेला नुकसान भरपाई देऊन आणि कामावर घेण्याचा आदेश दिलाय. या औषध निर्माण कंपनीची असंवेदनशीलता माणुसकीला काळिमा फासणारी आहे. त्यामुळं शिक्षणा बरोबरच माणसांना सुसंस्कृत करणं गरजेचं आहे.

सहारनपुर की जिला जेल में 23 कैदियों में एचआईवी पॉजिटिव वायरस की पुष्टि हुई है। इनमें एक महिला और 22 पुरुष हैं। स्वास्थ्य विभाग की ओर से लगाए गए जांच शिविर में इसका खुलासा हुआ है। विभाग ने इसकी रिपोर्ट जेल प्रशासन और शासन को दी है। जेल में इतनी अधिक संख्या में एचआईवी पॉजिटिव मरीज मिलने से जेल प्रशासन सकते में है।जेल प्रशासन इन कैदियों की हिस्ट्री खंगालने में लगा है। ताकि एचआईवी वायरस का सोर्स पता चल सके। इन कैदियों को इलाज के लिए राज्य एड्स नियंत्रण सोसायटी और एंटी रेट्रो वायल थैरेपी सेंटर(एआरटी सेंटर) को लेटर भेजा गया है।वहीं, मुख्य चिकित्सा अधिकारी डॉ. संजीव मांगलिक ने जानकारी देते हुए बताया कि कुल 23 कैदियों में एचआईवी पॉजिटिव की पुष्टि हुई है। जेल में 5 महीने में दो बार जांच शिविर लगाया गया था। इनकी रिपोर्ट अब आई है। इनमें टीबी और एड्स के लक्षण देखते हुए सैंपल भेजे गए थे।

Baby Cured of HIV for the First Time, Researchers Say
A Mississippi baby born with the AIDS virus appears to have been cured after being treated with an aggressive regimen of drugs just after her birth 2½ years ago, an unusual case that could trigger changes in care for hundreds of thousands of babies born globally each year with HIV.
The findings, reported Sunday by researchers, mark only the second documented case of a patient being cured of infection with the human immune-deficiency virus. The first, an adult man known as the Berlin patient, was cured as a result of a 2007 bone-marrow transplant.
The new case was discovered after the baby girl's mother stopped treatment on her, and doctors realized that the virus was undetectable even without drugs, which HIV patients normally must take for the rest of their lives.
Researchers cautioned that the report on the baby girl involves just one patient, and the findings appear to have little immediate relevance to people who contract HIV as adults or adolescents and are almost always diagnosed and treated long after their initial infection. But if further study confirms that very early treatment can cure HIV-infected newborns, it could spur widespread use of such an aggressive regimen in babies born with HIV, nearly all of them in low- and middle-income countries.

सहारनपुर की जिला जेल में 23 कैदियों में एचआईवी पॉजिटिव वायरस की पुष्टि हुई है। इनमें एक महिला और 22 पुरुष हैं। स्वास्थ्य विभाग की ओर से लगाए गए जांच शिविर में इसका खुलासा हुआ है। विभाग ने इसकी रिपोर्ट जेल प्रशासन और शासन को दी है। जेल में इतनी अधिक संख्या में एचआईवी पॉजिटिव मरीज मिलने से जेल प्रशासन सकते में है।जेल प्रशासन इन कैदियों की हिस्ट्री खंगालने में लगा है। ताकि एचआईवी वायरस का सोर्स पता चल सके। इन कैदियों को इलाज के लिए राज्य एड्स नियंत्रण सोसायटी और एंटी रेट्रो वायल थैरेपी सेंटर(एआरटी सेंटर) को लेटर भेजा गया है।वहीं, मुख्य चिकित्सा अधिकारी डॉ. संजीव मांगलिक ने जानकारी देते हुए बताया कि कुल 23 कैदियों में एचआईवी पॉजिटिव की पुष्टि हुई है। जेल में 5 महीने में दो बार जांच शिविर लगाया गया था। इनकी रिपोर्ट अब आई है। इनमें टीबी और एड्स के लक्षण देखते हुए सैंपल भेजे गए थे।

Baby Cured of HIV for the First Time, Researchers Say
A Mississippi baby born with the AIDS virus appears to have been cured after being treated with an aggressive regimen of drugs just after her birth 2½ years ago, an unusual case that could trigger changes in care for hundreds of thousands of babies born globally each year with HIV.
The findings, reported Sunday by researchers, mark only the second documented case of a patient being cured of infection with the human immune-deficiency virus. The first, an adult man known as the Berlin patient, was cured as a result of a 2007 bone-marrow transplant.
The new case was discovered after the baby girl's mother stopped treatment on her, and doctors realized that the virus was undetectable even without drugs, which HIV patients normally must take for the rest of their lives.
Researchers cautioned that the report on the baby girl involves just one patient, and the findings appear to have little immediate relevance to people who contract HIV as adults or adolescents and are almost always diagnosed and treated long after their initial infection. But if further study confirms that very early treatment can cure HIV-infected newborns, it could spur widespread use of such an aggressive regimen in babies born with HIV, nearly all of them in low- and middle-income countries.
