Rao was born to Kalvakuntla Raghava Rao and Venkatamma at Chintamadaka village of Siddipet Mandal in Medak District on 17 February 1954 He attained a MA degree in Literature from Osmania University, Hyderabad.

KCR started his career with the youth Congress party in Medak district.
Telugu Desam Party

बुराड़ी क्षेत्र में बिजली के नए मीटर नहीं मिलने व टूटी हुई गलियां सड़कों आदि के विरोध में फेडरेशन ऑफ RWA ने मिलकर एक मार्च निकालकर विधायक कार्यालय में ज्ञापन दिया। बुराड़ी की मुख्य सड़क पर लगने वाले जाम का भी विरोध स्थानीय जनता ने जताया। यह प्रदर्शन व ज्ञापन देने का कार्यक्रम फेडरेशन के अध्यक्ष मंगेश त्यागी द्वारा आयोजित किया गया। मंगेश त्यागी के नेतृत्व में हजारों की संख्या में महिला पुरुष बुराड़ी की मुख्य सड़क पर उतरे और स्थानीय विधायक व सांसद के खिलाफ जबरदस्त विरोध जताया। मंगेश त्यागी ने कहा कि यदि बिजली के मीटर और सड़क की समस्या का समाधान नहीं किया गया तो उनका आंदोलन लगातार जारी रहेगा। यहां की जनता ने क्या बताया और नेतृत्व कर रहे मंगेश त्यागी ने क्या कहा वह आप उन्हीं से सुनिए
