The changing market of #cryptocurrencies and the rising demand for the same has resulted in many countries taking a second look at their policies. While some are reverting to ignoring the prospect of advancement in finance out of sheer lack of awareness like India, others are changing their decision to be more in favour of adopting new technologies, such as the UK.
The UK government’s announcement that it will introduce a bill to regulate how #stablecoins can be used as a formal method of payment shows governments are warming up to the idea of stablecoins, and that they will be part of the UK's economic future. This is also a very welcome development following the collapse of UST, which led many outside the crypto space to unfairly assume that all stablecoins are risky.
The majority of decentralized stablecoins are fully backed by crypto assets, as users lend their cryptocurrency to borrow the stablecoin of their choice. This provides users with a novel way to borrow and allocate their capital without selling their cryptocurrency.
It is clear that the world's major economies don't want to be left behind regarding #blockchain technology, and stablecoins aren't on the decline but growing. Finally, bringing stablecoins into the scope of regulation is a significant milestone.

Time to regulate e-waste Industry
Two categories of electrical and electronic equipment namely IT and Telecommunication Equipment and Consumer Electricals and Electronics such as TVs, Washing Machines, Refrigerators, Air Conditioners including fluorescent and other mercury containing lamps are covered under the E-waste management Rules. The main feature, of these rules, is Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
According to a Toxics Link study on the thriving informal e-waste sector in Delhi NCR in 2018, nearly 5,000 e-waste processing units, mostly in east Delhi, were functioning without proper guidelines, precautions or norms.
An e-waste recycling plan is a type of sustainability effort or program that seeks to collect old electronics from around the corporation and safely dispose of them through a certified electronics recycling company. After all, it’s no secret that recycling electronics aids in environmental protection.
90% of the e-waste - Computer/ Laptops/Server/Storage/ Mobile Phones in Delhi is not being recycled. Rather it is further resale after doing minimal repairs/changes and then repack, sold as the refurbished products.
A subject matter expert says, generally a product comes to the e-waste after the corporates use it for a minimum period of three years, who generally buys in bulk quantities. The e-waste companies take the products for e-waste in Kilogram and Tons for recycling but the interesting thing is they reuse in various ways.
Experts suggest, for example, when any gadget comes out for e-waste, every product comes with a serial number. The authority has to do proper checks and balances to implement proper e-waste programmes.
As per E-waste the product which has burnt or put under recycled, the e-waste company has to provide the serial number of the destroyed products and that has to notify the respective company. ONDC to regulate ecom biz
#ONDC, is a private non-profit Section 8 company established by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of Government of India to develop open e-commerce.
It was incorporated on 31 December 2021 with initial investment from Quality Council of India and Protean eGov Technologies Limited, formerly NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited. ONDC is a set of specifications designed to foster open interchange and connections between shoppers, technology platforms, and retailers.
ONDC will unbundle delivery services so that customers can choose their own logistics provider. As many as 20 organisations of national repute have confirmed investments of Rs 255 crore into ONDC. Lenders such as the State Bank of India, UCO Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Bank of Baroda have already committed investments.
The initiative is aimed at suppressing the dominance of Amazon and #Flipkart, which control more than half of the country’s e-commerce trading, limit access to the market, and give preferential treatment to certain sellers and squeeze supplier margins. ONDC is a set of standards for voluntary adoption by sellers or logistics providers or payment gateways.
For example, if both Amazon and Flipkart integrate their platforms with ONDC, a user searching for a Bluetooth headset on Amazon would also see results from Flipkart on the Amazon app. ONDC aims to go beyond retail ecommerce, however, and similarly connect companies in areas such as mobility, food delivery, hotel booking and travel, among others.
On ONDC, there will be several other backend partners such as logistics service providers, enterprise resource planners, e-commerce store hosting service providers, etc.

The telecom companies are requesting the government to level the internet calling and messaging apps playing field in the industry on the basis of "same service, same rules. They are urging the government to charge the same license fee and follow the same regulatory interception and quality of service requirements for the service.
According to the report, TRAI suggested that internet service providers could offer internet telephony for placing calls on phone networks in exchange for payment of interconnection fees, which have since been eliminated for telecom operators. They could also offer the service if they installed equipment for lawful interception and paid the interconnection fees.
As per the DoT, a whopping 60%-70% of voice calls are currently taking place over the online messaging apps. The voice calls made using WhatsApp and other apps are hard to track, resulting in an increase in national security and financial fraud. Therefore, there is a strong need to regulate OTT communication apps.
With this, the telecom sector is going through a financial loss. In order to provide the calling and SMS service, these companies pay licensing fees too. As a workaround, these companies are asking the government to mandate the license fee for apps that offer online calling and messaging benefits.
When it comes to national security, phone voice calls can be easily tracked, but over-the-top voice calls cannot be tracked. India’s telecom operators are mandated to store Call Details Record of all voice calls for at least a year. National security agencies use them whenever it is required.
Therefore, the government now wants to bring OTT messaging and voice platforms under the licensing regime that will require them to maintain local data storage for a certain period. Additionally, all OTT platforms would need to implement the know-your-customer procedure to ensure user verification.

Game of Skill to regulate & no gameplan for the game of chance
According to sources, the government is working on online gaming regulations that will apply to all real-money games, both skill and chance. Simultaneously, the Income Tax Department has started scrutinizing closely the IT returns filed by professional poker players, with several of the country’s top poker pros receiving notices under Section 142 of the Income Tax Act of 1961.
A panel tasked with drafting the regulations for the online gaming industry in August proposed a new body to decide whether a game involves skill or chance and then let skill games be governed by planned federal rules that call for registration requirements, know-your-customer norms, and a grievance redress mechanism. The panel also proposed that games of chance could stay under the purview of individual state governments, which would be free to regulate them.
Experts say the rules would give the central administration broader oversight on all types of games. In contrast, state governments will remain empowered to impose outright bans on gambling or games of chance. The drafting of the new regulations comes amid growing concerns that the proliferation of such games, particularly among young people, had led to addiction and financial losses, with reported cases of suicide.
The much-awaited regulations are seen shaping the future of India's gaming sector that research firm Redseer estimates will be worth $7 billion by 2026, dominated by real-money games. Defining games has been contentious in India. India's Supreme Court says the card game rummy and certain fantasy games are skill-based and legal, for example, while different state courts have held different views about games such as poker.
The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) has also begun issuing notices to online gaming operators as the tax authorities believe that online gaming companies have allegedly conducted massive tax evasion in the past few years.
