अधर्म पर धर्म की और असत्य पर सत्य की जीत का प्रतीक रावण का व्यक्तित्व शायद ऐसा ही है,,,,कि हम सरेआम रावण को दोषी मानते है और उसका पुतला तालियों की गडगडाहट के बीच जलाते है,,,,लेकिन क्या आपने सोचा है कि रावण का यही व्यक्तित्व उसकी पूजा भी कराता है,,,,, पूरे देश में विजयदशमी में रावण का प्रतीक रूप में वध कर चाहे उसका पुतला जलाया जाता हो,,,,लेकिन उत्तर प्रदेश में कानपुर एक ऐसी जगह है जहा दशहरे के दिन रावण की पूजा की जाती है,,,,,,इतना ही नहीं यहाँ पूजा करने के लिए रावण का मंदिर भी मौजूद है जो केवल वर्ष में दशहरे के मौके पर खोला जाता है,,,,
रावण का ये मंदिर उद्दोग नगरी कानपुर में मौजूद है,,,,विजयदशमी के दिन इस मंदिर में पूरे विधिविधान से रावण का दुग्ध स्नान और अभिषेक कर श्रंगार किया जाता है उसके बाद पूजन के साथ रावण की स्तुति कर आरती की जाती है,,,,,
ब्रह्म बाण नाभि में लगने के बाद और रावण के धराशाही होने के बीच कालचक्र ने जो रचना की उसने रावण को पूजने योग्य बना दिया,,,, यह वह समय था जब राम ने लक्ष्मण से कहा था कि रावण के पैरो की तरफ खड़े हो कर सम्मान पूर्वक नीति ज्ञान की शिक्षा ग्रहण करो,,,,, क्योकि धरातल पर न कभी रावण के जैसा कोई ज्ञानी पैदा हुआ है और न कभी होगा,,,,,,रावण का यही स्वरूप पूजनीय है और इसी स्वरुप को ध्यान में रखकर कानपुर में रावण के पूजन का विधान है,,,,
सन 1868 में कानपुर में बने इस मंदिर में तबसे आज तक निरंतर रावण की पूजा होती है ,,,,लोग हर वर्ष इस मंदिर के खुलने का इन्तजार करते है और मंदिर खुलने पर यहाँ पूजा अर्चना बड़े धूम धाम से करते है,,,,, पूरे विधि विधान से पूजा अर्चना के साथ रावण की आरती भी की जाती है,,,, कानपुर में मौजूद रावण के इस मंदिर के बारे में यह भी मान्यता है कि यहाँ मन्नत मांगने से लोगों के मन की मुरादें भी पूरी होती है,,, और लोग इसी लिए यहाँ दशहरे पर रावण की विशेष पूजा करते हैं,,,, यहाँ दशहरे के दिन ही रावण का जन्मदिन भी मनाया जाता है,,,, बहुत कम लोग जानते होंगे कि रावण को जिस दिन राम के हाथों मोक्ष मिला उसी दिन रावण पैदा भी हुआ था,,,,
