Former Indian Sprinter Milkha Singh, widely regarded as ‘Flying Sikh’, passed away due to post-COVID complications on June 18. He was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the PGIMER Hospital in Chandigarh on June 3. The 91-year-old had tested positive for COVID-19 on May 20. President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with several other leaders paid condoles to the ‘Flying Sikh’.

ചെറുതും വലുതമായ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയകൾക്കെല്ലാം തന്നെ അനസ്തേഷ്യ നൽകുന്നുണ്ട്. അനസ്തേഷ്യക്ക് വിധേയമാകുന്ന രോഗികളിൽ എന്താണ് നടക്കുന്നതെന്ന് നോക്കാം . മയക്കി കിടത്തി സർജറി പൂർത്തിയാക്കുന്നു. എന്നാൽ എന്താണ് അനസ്തേഷ്യഎന്ന സംശയം ചിലർക്കെങ്കിലും തോന്നിയിട്ടുണ്ടാവും. ശസ്ത്രക്രിയക്ക് മുൻപേ ബോധം ഇല്ലാതാക്കുന്ന അവസ്ഥയാണ് ഇത്. ചെറുതും വലുതുമായ ഏത് ശസ്ത്രക്രിയക്കു മുൻപും അനസ്തേഷ്യ നൽകുന്നുണ്ട്. പണ്ട് കാലത്ത് അനസ്തേഷ്യയുടെ സ്വീകാര്യതയെപ്പറ്റി പലർക്കും സംശയം നിലനിന്നിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ശാസ്ത്രം പുരോഗമിക്കുന്നതിലൂടെ പല തെറ്റിദ്ധാരണകളും മാറി വന്നു.അനസ്തേഷ്യക്ക് വിധേയമാകുന്ന രോഗികൾക്ക് നിരവധി സംശയങ്ങളും പേടിയും ഉണ്ടാവുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ഇതിന് ഉത്തരം കൊടുക്കാൻ പലര്ക്കും സമയം ഉണ്ടാവുന്നില്ല. അനസ്തേഷ്യ നൽകുന്നതിലൂടെ രോഗി മയങ്ങിപ്പോവുന്നു. ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ കഴിഞ്ഞതിനു ശേഷമായിരിക്കും രോഗിയുടെ ബോധം തിരിച്ച് കിട്ടുന്നത്. അനസ്തേഷ്യ ചില സമയങ്ങളിൽ ചെറിയ രീതിയിൽ അപകടം ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. എന്തൊക്കെയാണ് അനസ്തേഷ്യയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള കാര്യങ്ങൾ എന്ന് നോക്കാം. ആരോഗ്യത്തെ ഇത് എങ്ങനെയെല്ലാം ബാധിക്കുന്നു എന്നും നോക്കാം.

ഇതില് രോഗിയെ പൂർണമായും അബോധാവസ്ഥയിൽ ആക്കുന്നു. മാത്രമല്ല രോഗിയുടെ പേശികളുടെ ചലന ശേഷിയും അനസ്തേഷ്യ നൽകുന്നതിലൂടെ നഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇത് ശരീരത്തിന് വേദന രഹിതമായ അവസ്ഥയാണ് ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നത്. ശസ്ത്രക്രിയക്ക് ശേഷമാണ് രോഗിക്ക് സാധാരണ ശാരീരികാവസ്ഥ തിരിച്ച് കിട്ടുന്നത്.
