WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: Since being moved from Carl Domino’s barn to Breen’s, the colt is 2-for-2, with the highlight being a 1½-length victory in the nine-furlong Spiral Stakes. Animal Kingdom in 2011 used the Spiral as his prep for winning the Kentucky Derby. Bravo, Monmouth Park’s 13-time riding champ, will be making his third Derby appearance.

2013 Kentucky Derby picks and analysis from Liam Durbin
The new points system for qualifying horses for the Kentucky Derby appears to have served its purpose. The race is full of horses with the preferred pedigree and running style to handle the distance. While this has served to restore some purity to the race, it has also made the race tougher to handicap because many of the horses now excluded by the points system were easy toss-outs for handicappers. This field of 20 is very even. A case could be made for every one of them to win.
Orb was made the morning-line favorite, in a bit of a surprise, over Verrazano, who many thought would be made the favorite after remaining perfect in the Wood Memorial. In that race, Verrazano got the job done, but appeared to show some distance limitations, giving up ground to Vyjack and Normandy Invasion in the deep stretch. Verrazano is expected to try to win the Derby on the lead, and there will be horses that attempt to keep up with him in the early going. He will be challenged. Orb likes to come off the pace, so he could well be the one to chop down Verrazano in the stretch. He has been training well at Churchill Downs and looks great. He also comes into the Derby on four straight wins.
After these top two horses, there is not much of a drop in quality to the next tier of contenders. Three of those horses come into the Derby following impressive wins in Grade I qualifying races. Conditions will be wet and muddy for the 2013 Kentucky Derby. SBNation weather contributor, Meteorologist Brian Neudorff, gives us the weekend weather forecast.
The forecast for the remainder of the day for the Kentucky Oaks should be mostly cloudy with a chance of an isolated to scattered shower later this afternoon. The post time for the Kentucky Oaks race is at 5:45 p.m. EDT, there could be scattered rain showers and even some thunderstorms. Temperatures this afternoon and evening will be in the low to mid 70s.
Scattered showers will continue overnight and rain will be increase as we go through out the morning Saturday. The rain is expected to last most if not all day. This will cause sloppy, muddy conditions for the 139th Kentucky Derby. It is possible that Churchill Downs receives between a quarter to a half an inch of rain by the time the Derby actually takes place at 6:24 p.m. EDT.
Saturday's weather forecast is for cloudy skies and off and on rain showers. Some of these showers will be heavy and steady especially from midday into the afternoon. Temperatures will also be chilly with nearly steady temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. The wind will be out of the east between 5 and 15 mph. It's been a challenging spring for Frac Daddy; he grabbed a quarter in his first stat of the year in the Holy Bull and struggled mightily in the Florida Derby. A second place finish in the Arkansas Derby gave him enough points to make the field for the 2013 Kentucky Derby.

Positives: He's raced twice at Churchill Downs in his career with a win and a second place finish to his name. He broke his maiden at Churchill in early November and followed that race up by finishing second to Uncaptured in the G2-Kentucky Jockey Club. So, if you're looking for reasons to bet Frac Daddy, his prior success over the track is probably near the top of your list.
Another good sign for Frac Daddy was his second place finish to Overanalyze in the Arkansas Derby. After his struggles in Florida he needed a race where he achieved some level of success. On the other hand...

Overanalyze, rebounding from a lackluster seasonal debut, overpowered his rivals in the drive to easily win the $1 million Arkansas Derby (gr. I) and stamp his ticket for this year's Run for the Roses.
Before a crowd of 66,158 at Oaklawn Park, jockey Rafael Bejarano brought the son of Dixie Union from well off the pace to score handily by 4 1/4 lengths at 7-2 odds for Repole Stable and trainer Todd Pletcher. The Arkansas Derby, the last major prep for the 2013 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), was worth 100 points to the winner.
