    Cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar is back again but this time with his predicted playing XI for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final between India and New Zealand. The summit clash is set to begin on June 18 and various other experts and critics are putting their thinking hats on as to what the team combinations will look like.

    Manjrekar has picked his team keeping the seam and swing condition on offer in England. The 55-year-old has excluded Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma from the playing XI. While the former is in form of his life by ticking all three aspects of the game, the latter is the most experienced fast bowler in these conditions.



    The former batter also explained how the conditions are likely to affect the team combinations as in England, it tends to get sunny and cloudy on some days. He also feels Indians too will look into that aspect and pick the team accordingly.

    “I’m assuming you have typical English conditions. I’m assuming there will be a mixture of sun and cloudy cover throughout the five days of the Test match if it goes the distance. So I’m picking the team accordingly,” Manjrekar told to ESPNcricinfo.

    The 55-year-old’s two openers are Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma followed by Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, and Ajinkya Rahane. While the top five were also on everyone’s list, it’s the inclusion of Hanuma Vihari at number six that has managed to grab eyeballs. Manjrekar feels Vihari, has a very good technique and he will be able to play well in the swing and seam conditions.

    Interestingly, Manjrekar has picked only Ravi Ashwin as India’s sole spinner for the marquee clash. His pace bowlers are Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammad Shami.

    Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has picked India’s probable XI for their upcoming Test against England at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. The opening Test at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham ended in a draw after rain played spoilsport in the final day’s play. In his eleven, the current commentator didn’t pick Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja.

    In Thakur’s place, he went for Hanuma Vihari due to the inconsistent run of a few batters and also because of the seam-friendly conditions in England. Vihari last played in the Sydney Test against Australia back in January and helped India save the match on the last day. The right-hander recently played in the County Championship for Warwickshire.

    Manjrekar reckoned the selectors made a mistake in dropping Ravi Ashwin from the previous Test. He mentioned that the off-spinner has a better chance of making breakthroughs at the Home of Cricket.

    Jadeja bowled 16 overs in the first Test, but couldn’t pick up a wicket. However, he was decent with the bat as he scored 56 runs with eight fours and a six in India’s first innings.

    The Lord’s Test is scheduled to get underway on Thursday, August 12. Headingley, Leeds and Old Trafford are the venues for the remaining three Tests on the tour. The last time India played at the Lord’s they lost by a margin of an innings and 159 runs.

Back in 2019, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar and current all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja were involved in a heated altercation. During the 2019 World Cup, after India’s 31-run loss to England in Birmingham, then batting coach Sanjay Bangar said that Jadeja would be a part of the game against Bangladesh. The potential move didn’t please Manjrekar by any means.

The veteran called Jadeja a “bits and pieces” cricketer. The comment didn’t go down well with Jadeja, who hit back at Manjrekar. In the semi-final, albeit the Men in Blue lost to New Zealand, Jadeja sparkled with a half-century.

In the meantime, Manjrekar seems to have gotten tangled in another controversy as one of the Twitter users leaked his personal chats. In one of them, Manjrekar stated that Jadeja doesn’t understand English.

One of his messages read, “Sad state you are in. Expecting me to worship players like you do… by the way I am not a fan. I am an analyst. And Jadeja doesn’t know English so he did not know the actual meaning of bits and pieces. And surely somebody spelt verbal diarrhoea for him.”

In 2019, Manjrekar said that Jadeja doesn’t fulfil the criteria for being a proper player in the one day format. In Test cricket, the veteran called him a ‘pure bowler’.

“I am not a big fan of bits and pieces players which Jadeja is at this point of his career in 50-over cricket. In Test matches, he is a pure bowler. But in 50-over cricket, I would rather have a batsman and a spinner,” Manjrekar, earlier, said.
