    BLOCKCHAIN TECH. IMPACTING BANKS

Banks in the country have joined hands to create a new company that will leverage the power of blockchain technology to speed up the processing of Letters of Credit (LCs). The blockchain technology creates a digital ledger by integrating data from across platforms and hardware and enables independent parties, spread across the globe, to share data across the network. Indian Banks' Blockchain Infrastructure Company Private Limited (IBBIC) is a coalition of 15 banks, including ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, RBL Bank, SBI and Canara Bank joined to benefit from the transformation. The system will be based on Infosys’ Finacle Connect, a blockchain-based platform that enables digitisation and automation of trade-related finance processes. The move is expected to eliminate paperwork, reduce transaction processing time, and offer a secure environment. Moreover, it could be a boon for medium and small-scale enterprises. The LCs are the letters from a bank that guarantee that a buyer will pay the seller on time, and for the correct amount. Currently, the process of issuing an LC is relatively slow and requires human intervention to prevent frauds, authenticate transactions, and balance the ledger. Using blockchain to issue LCs would potentially solve these issues. Even elemental fraud like the issuance of two LCs on a single invoice can be easily prevented with the help of this blockchain technology.

Organizations are leveraging the blockchain technology to create smart contracts that remove the need for third-party administrators and evaluators. Today's supply chains are globally-dispersed with raw materials being sourced from different locations, each set of the parts being produced and assembled in different locations. The final products then need to be packaged, stored in warehouses and delivered to the final consumers or the seller chains. It is a set of highly interconnect

  • Tech giants leveraging customer data

    Tech giants leveraging customer data

What is At Risk – How Marketing Data is Currently Used? There’s a lot at stake, which includes the way companies use algorithms and technology to track individual users. Take Google for instance, if they enhance their privacy by masking customer data, businesses must then go through Google to purchase ads, which ultimately means gaining access to targeting data to send those messages to a designated user base.

Propelled by Big Data, these online ads have previously helped companies target people with characteristics of someone to whom the content and promotions are likely to be of interest. Big Data is the process of buying data from a third-party provider, collecting the online activity, purchase history, social media content and more to identify people that are most-likely interested in the promotions a company has to offer. Big data is simply a collection of data that may be assessed to disclose patterns and trends. It is used by several multinational companies to filter the data and business of various companies.

There are specialized agencies who process the IP address and cookies to do the marketing by knowing the users interest, preferences, pattern and buying behaviours. After this the big data helps companies to understand their customer's needs and wants and also enables a business to engage in a real-time, one-on-one conversation with consumers.

It is the second time within a fortnight that RBI has expressed its concerns over Big Tech's functioning and operations in the financial sector. Last year too, the central bank raised red flags saying that Big Tech companies are likely to become dominant players in the financial services sector in the country, and pose a threat to existing banks, payment companies and non-banking financial services players.

It also stated that these companies would bring their own set of challenges to regulators in advanced and emerging markets. Regulators and supervisors face a chal

Governor inaugurates NGO Conclave on Leveraging CSR

Governor N.N. Vohra has called for judicious use of funds available under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for development of the most deserving and needy people in far flung backward areas of the State. He was inaugurating the “NGO Conclave on Leveraging CSR” organized by “Bunyaad Foundation” at Gulshan Ground, Jammu, today.
The Governor complimented the Bunyaad Foundation and observed that as per the Companies Act, 2013, every company with a turnover of Rs. 5 crore or more is mandated to spend 2% of its profits on social issues under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Governor stressed the need for Government to establish close linkages with the Companies which have CSR obligation and ensure prioritised utilisation of the CSR funds. Such an approach would promote focused development in identified sectors and geographical areas, to supplement the development programmes which are being implemented by the State Government.
A fully coordinated Government–NGO approach, he stressed, would go a long way to promote welfare, particularly in areas like adult literacy, clean drinking water, primary health care etc. The Governor recalled that earlier this year, during the period of Governor’s Rule, he had set up a group of officers, including Planning and Finance Secretaries, to take a holistic view of the total funds available under CSR and how the same should be utilised to secure maximum gain for the people. He was unaware whether this group had ceased to exist.
