India head coach Rahul Dravid felt the need to finalise a set of 20 players soon for the most-awaited T20 World Cup 2022 this year in Australia. The Men in Blue under Virat Kohli were knocked out in the group stages of the T20 World Cup 2021 unexpectedly and this time it will be a new captain Rohit Sharma and coach Dravid for the tournament. So far, the combination has been a grand success until the recent South Africa series, where India went under the scanner.
Although the regulars Rohit, Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah were rested, a young India team suffered back-to-back heavy defeats in the first two games of the five-match series under Rishabh Pant’s captaincy. They showed a lot of character in the next two games by playing the same side and went on to level the series. However, the final game was washed out and the series ended 2-2.

“You are bowling 10 overs in just about three-and-a-half hours which is a lot, plus if you are batting towards the end and stay not out while batting first and then come in and bowl those 10 overs, it is physically very draining,” he added.
The cricketing pundit feels that Pandya should be used as a batting all-rounder because his form with the bat has been tremendous and stated that he can make a cameo with the ball in the middle and bowl a couple of overs.

Former India player and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has stated that he felt ahead of IPL 2022, Rohit Sharma might follow Virat Kohli’s footsteps and decide to hand over the Mumbai Indians’ captaincy baton to Kieron Pollard to focus purely on his batting. “Pollard still has the capability, I can see that from the sixes he hits. He’ll contribute in the pressure match, the crunch game. On Tuesday (April 12), Manjrekar commented on the matter, and adding to it he said that the all-rounder Kieron Pollard adds a lot of value to the team’s set-up. He also revealed that he had envisioned a leadership role for the Caribbean player, even after his poor run this season- 47 runs in four innings so far. Manjrekar feels that Pollard just needs one good game to get back his usual form, and feels that the 34-year-old is doing his job well.
“I feel Pollard still adds value. [Before the season] I even felt Rohit Sharma might leave captaincy like Virat Kohli, relax a bit, play as a pure batter and hand the responsibility to Pollard who is a brilliant international captain,” Manjrekar told ESPNCricinfo.
“Pollard still has the capability, I can see that from the sixes he hits. He’ll contribute in the pressure match, the crunch game. But they need to reach there first and that’s not on Pollard, it never has been. He’s never contributed throughout the season for Mumbai Indians. He plays one innings in a pressure game and sees the team through. Others need to work better because Pollard is doing his usual job,” he added.
After Kohli stepped down from his captaincy role with the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Indian team’s T20 side, he was shortly replaced by Rohit Sharma in the Tests and ODI formats too. While Sharma was named India’s all-formats captain, Faf du Plessis was declared as Virat’s successor at the RCB camp.

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has taken a jibe at the Indian captain Virat Kohli for calling outside talk ‘nonsense.’ Ahead of the ODI series against England in Pune, Kohli said that he doesn’t hear all the outside talk which has been going around in the media. Kohli also said that his team won’t let the outside talk get into the side.
Manjrekar tweeted about the same. In the tweet, he criticized Kohli for his stance on this issue. He opined that the outside talk which the captain has termed as nonsense is basically the public opinion based on the team’s performance. He further said that the current Indian skipper should learn from the former skipper, MS Dhoni who could handle it with calmness and maturity.
“Outside talk which Virat calls nonsense is basically public reacting to a public performance. And it’s always been the same- Praise when you do well, critique when you don’t. Virat must learn to accept this age-old reality with calmness & maturity. Just like Dhoni did,” Manjrekar tweeted on this issue.
