West Indies vs Bangladesh - 2nd ODI Match Stats, Predicted Playing XI and Previews

After a thrilling first game, West Indies are set to host Bangladesh for the second ODI at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. West Indies won the Test and T20I series with sheer ease but faced a major setback in the first ODI match as Bangladesh clinched a victory to go one up in the series. The upcoming contest will be an important one for the visitors as they look to compensate for their recent losses.

The rain-affected match was reduced to 41 overs a side, but Bangladesh bowlers managed to restrict the Caribbean power-hitters to just 149/9. Shoriful Islam and Mehidy Hassan were clinical with their respective spells as the former picked four wickets and the latter finished with three.

West Indies vs New Zealand - 2nd ODI Match Stats, Predicted Playing XI, and Previews

After a successful outing in the series opener at Kensington Oval in Barbados, West Indies will take on visitors New Zealand in the second ODI of the three-match series on August 19, Friday. The hosts, having a 1-0 lead in hand, are just one win away from clinching the ODI series and breaking their long series-losing streak.

It was a much-needed victory for the Caribbean side as they have not had ideal outings in the recent past. They lost against Ireland in January, then lost against India in February away from home, before winning against the Netherlands in June. They then lost the ODI series against Pakistan and Bangladesh before losing another series to India at home.

The last three series losses were all a clean sweep as the Windies lost nine ODI games in a row and thus the recent win, that too against a strong Kiwi side, will boost their confidence. The bowlers played a crucial role in the first game as they dismissed the Blackcaps for just 190.

The Men in Maroon then completed a successful chase, thanks to a brilliant half-century by Shamarh Brooks. New Zealand would be disappointed by their effort and would look to bounce back in the second ODI to level the series, whereas the hosts would look to extend their winning momentum and clinch the series.

Here are all the stats & approaching milestones you need to know ahead of the second game of the series.

    Pitch Conditions
Both bowlers and batters have found help on the Kensington Oval pitch. It will be difficult for the sides batting first to reach a large total because the pitch is not conducive for high scoring, which was also evident in the first game. Given that the first innings’ average is only 228 runs, a score of anywhere close to 250 will be challenging.

A powerful show by Axar Patel in the second ODI helped India clinch the ongoing three-match series and take an unassailable 2-0 lead against hosts West Indies. The Shikhar Dhawan & Co. will now look to continue the momentum, and whitewash the series by 3-0, by winning the third and final ODI which is set to happen on July 27 at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain in Trinidad.

West Indies yet again came perilously close to defeating India, but were unable to defend their total of 311/6 as a remarkable cameo from Axar Patel helped the visitors cross the finish line, condemning the Windies to an eighth straight ODI loss. As the hosts’ batters continue to shine throughout this series, opener Shai Hope celebrated his 100th ODI for the West Indies with a century.

However, until and unless the bowlers pull up their socks to restrict India from scoring, they would keep facing a challenging time. Gudakesh Motie was replaced in the lineup by Hayden Walsh, however, Walsh only bowled three overs at an economy rate of 8.00 and went wicketless. Thus, the Windies might plan to reverse that move.

All-rounder Axar Patel‘s thrilling cameo of an unbeaten 64 off 35 deliveries brought India’s bench strength to the limelight once again in the recently concluded game. If Ravindra Jadeja hadn’t missed out on the game due to his injury, Patel might not have gotten the chance of making it to the XI. Patel played a match-winning knock and confirmed his place in the lineup.

Another such player, who impressed everyone was Sanju Samson, who portrayed the wicketkeeper-batter’s role in the absence of regular Rishabh Pant. For the second ODI, there was only one replacement made as pacer Avesh Khan replaced Prasidh Krishna in the lineup. However, Avesh struggled to create an impact with the ball and having won the series already, India might well be persuaded to give a debut cap to Arshdeep Singh.

India will commence the West Indies tour with a three-match ODI series followed by as many T20Is. The Indian team will be missing the services of senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant as the captaincy role has been handed to Shikhar Dhawan. After a 2-1 victory over England, the Men in Blue will look to continue their winning momentum.

On the other hand, West Indies are coming off a 3-0 defeat against Bangladesh at home. They dominated the Test and T20Is against the opponents by winning both the series by 2-0 but failed to put up a good show in the ODIs. The West Indies have struggled to establish the correct tempo in ODI cricket for a while now.

India had hosted West Indies in February, and clean swept both the ODI and T20I series by 3-0. India had last toured the West Indies in 2019, where the first game was washed out due to rain, but the Men in Blue managed to win the second and third ODI. That was the series where Kohli hit an ODI ton and bagged the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards. Notably, he hasn’t managed to hit an ODI century ever since.

West Indies, however, haven’t been able to strike the correct balance in the 50-over format, when it is necessary to control the hitting and shift the strike in the middle overs regularly. Either they have shut down or have tried to be overly aggressive. As a result, the squad has struggled to bat through the complete 50 overs. Before announcing his retirement, even Kieron Pollard stressed the need for West Indies to bat for the entire 50 overs in the format.

The in-form India has defeated West Indies in the two teams’ last 11 ODI encounters, thus remaining unbeaten in the 50-over format. In terms of the bilateral series, India haven’t lost against the Windies since May 2006. The Indian batters have found a good rhythm, and as for the bowlers, Ravindra Jadeja will be the one to look out for as he has the most number of wick

After winning the first T20I comfortably, Team India will look to extend their dominance during the second T20I encounter against the home team West Indies. The match will be played at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts on August 1 (Monday).

The home team was not able to win a single match in the ODI series and they will want to put on a good performance at St Kitts to register their first win of the series against the Men in Blue. Team India, on the other hand, will be looking for another dominating display against the home team.

Just like the ODI series, the absence of key players like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah would be a great opportunity for the emerging players as well as the bench strength to prove their point and put the national selectors on notice.

After a not-so-successful T20I series, West Indies are all set to host New Zealand for a three-match ODI series, the first of which will be played on August 17. The visitors clinched the T20I series by 2-1 as the hosts saved themselves from a whitewash scare, but they will now look to bounce back stronger in the 50-over games to try and deny the visitors the ODI series win.

Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson has a good track record in the ODI format. He is just one maximum away from completing 50 sixes in this format and needs 47 runs to complete 500 runs against the West Indies. If he does so, he will become the fifth New Zealand batter to achieve the feat. Thus, all eyes will be on the skipper.

Martin Guptill, one of the finest players in the ODI format for the Black Caps, also has some good performances to show against Windies. The visitors are in a winning form as they’re backed with the T20I series win, which will prove to be very much beneficial when they walk into the ODI series. They would look to carry the momentum and dominate the hosts in the 50-over games as well.

West Indies, on the other hand, have not had a good time recently in the ODIs. They faced a second-string team India in July and lost the series 0-3 after a dismal performance. Before facing the Men in Blue, they had faced a clean sweep against Bangladesh who had defeated the Men in Maroon 0-3 as well. Thus, West Indies are backed by consecutive ODI series whitewashes, and the upcoming series will be mighty crucial for them.

Here are all the stats & approaching milestones you need to know ahead of the first game of the series.

    Pitch Conditions

The pitch at the Kensington Oval has supported both the batters and bowlers. Of the 45 ODIs played at this venue, 20 were won defending, and 23 were won while chasing. The ODI series has come down to the third and decider game, where both West Indies, the hosts, and New Zealand, the visitors, look to achieve the same goal- a win. While the hosts won the first game to take an early lead in the series and break their nine-match losing streak in the format, the visitors bounced back stronger to level the series and take it to the final game.

The two teams will lock horns on Sunday, August 21, at the same venue- the Kensington Oval in Barbados, where the winning side will be crowned as the series champions. New Zealand worked on their flaws after losing the first game, and now West Indies would look to do the same. They faced a terrible collapse in the previous contest and would look to work in the batting department.

West Indies struggles with the bat continued in the first T20I against New Zealand at Sabina Park on Wednesday as New Zealand ran out comfortable victors by 13 runs. The hosts will be determined to draw level in the series in the second T20I at the same venue on the 12th of August.

Here are all the stats & approaching milestones you need to know ahead of the second game of the series.

    Pitch Conditions
The series opener saw a high-scoring affair at the same venue and although the pitch assisted the slower bowlers, run-scoring wasn’t difficult. The team winning the toss will bat first on the surface after the way the surface played out in the first T20I, as chasing gets tougher on this pitch.

India started off the ODI series on a high note by winning the first game and taking a 1-0 lead. But West Indies players gave their best and put out a worthy fight. They fell short by just three runs as India emerged victorious in the final-ball thriller. It will be interesting to see which team will get the upper hand in the next game that is set to happen at the same venue on Sunday.

The Men in Blue had a good start with the bat, but they struggled in the second half of the innings, after losing the top order. Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer showed great composure as all three of them bagged a good individual score. But the middle-order faced a slump and India’s hopes of posting a humungous total were crushed.

Dhawan’s strategy of rotating the bowlers and changing the field setup regularly helped the team get the West indies power-hitters out of the game, but they still need improvements in the bowling. Apart from that, they also need to sort the middle-order lineup as India can not face another collapse in the upcoming fixture.

As for the hosts, their biggest problem in the ODIs was that they weren’t able to play through the 50 overs. But the Men in Maroon took everyone by surprise by putting up a fight till the last ball of the 50th over of their chase. Now that the team has got the rhythm correct, they would look to capitalize on the same and cover up for their loss.

Here are all the stats & approaching milestones you need to know ahead of the second game of the series.

Pitch Conditions

A pitch that supports the batters and the bowlers equally, the contest at The Queen’s Park Oval will be neck-to-neck. The first game saw both pacers and spinners getting the most out of it, while it behaves a tad bit slow for the batters. The batters will have to stay long on the crease to adjust to the conditions and get going.

  • West Indies vs New Zealand - 1st ODI Match Stats, Predicted Playing XI, and Previews

West Indies vs New Zealand - 1st ODI Match Stats, Predicted Playing XI, and Previews

It is not a high-scoring pitch, and thus it will be a task for the teams batting first to put up a big total. The average first innings t

West Indies vs New Zealand- 3nd ODI Match Stats, Predicted Playing XI and Previews

West Indies vs New Zealand - 2nd T20I Match Stats, Predicted Playing XI, and Previews

    West Indies

The batters once again let down the team as the team suffered their fourth successive loss. The team management might include their premier spinner Akeal Hosein for the all-important second T20I.

Predicted XI: Kyle Mayers, Shamarh Brooks, Devon Thomas (wk), Nicholas Pooran (c), Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, Odean Smith, Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd, Akeal Hosein, Obed McCoy

    New Zealand

Kane Williamson will be delighted with his team’s near-perfect all-round performance and will look to claim another T20I series victory by winning the second T20I.

Predicted XI: Martin Guptill, Devon Conway (wk), Kane Williamson (c), Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult
