Agriculture both contributes to climate change and is affected by climate change. The increasing temperatures are resulting in reduction of yields in key crops while encouraging weed and pest proliferation. Further changes in rainfall patterns are increasing the likelihood of short-run crop failures and long-run production declines. With the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) forecasting a temperature rise of 2.5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit over the next century the challenge is severe.
To meet the demands of a growing population (approximately 9+ billion by 2050), the global food production must increase by 60% to 70% in the next three decades. This is a great challenge not only because of the volume of food that must be produced, but because agricultural conditions & resources will not remain constant or predicable in the years to come.
Like the emerging global scenario, Agriculture sector in India is also increasingly vulnerable to climate change. The challenge is huge for India as the productivity in key crops in India is low, further the pressure on water resources is high given the water intensive cropping pattern.
To mitigate climate risk the agriculture sectors must scale adoption of technologies that help improve yields and to achieve production with right food quality with minimal use of resources. Action on climate change is closely aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 1, SDG 2, and SDG 13, SDG 14 and SDG 15.
Given the above background, the well curated conference will provide a platform to deep dive into global advancements on technology by providing an opportunity to listen to global solution providers about their technology and explore opportunities for their adoption with respect to Climate Change in India.

Widespread Adoption of Blockchain
Blockchain technology has seen a widespread adoption in recent years. It is an open, distributed ledger that can record transactions between two parties efficiently and in a verifiable and permanent way. Apart from initial adoption into cryptocurrencies, today it is being used in healthcare, real estate, smart contacts, etc. However, improper implementation of the technology has also been the cause of many blockchain security issues, making the blockchain vulnerable and allowing attackers to perform several malicious activities.
Blockchain promises to solve the problem of bitcoin and other virtual currencies. The technology has the capability to transform the internet to an internet of value. But as things passed, blockchain started showing its true colours and projects both within the govt and private in a big way. It was accepted that this would be the future of the internet and as we can see now, the Web3 and the Metaverse world would be heavily dependent on it.
A blockchain documents each transaction details, identifying the sender, recipient, input amount, and output amount. Only the parties to a transaction can unlock the contents of the block because they only hold the private key that is necessary to open the data. But since each entry bears a hash, anyone can verify the existence of a transaction within the block.
The blockchain protocol is a special case of DLT, where the consensus protocol creates a daisy chain immutable ledger of all transactions that is shared across all participants. The cryptographic consensus protocol ensures immutability and irreversibility of all transactions posted on the ledger. The ledger itself can also be programmed to trigger transactions automatically. Hyperledger project has given it push when it needed to get into the use case stage.

As per the report by the global job portal reveals that, job postings for #cryptocurrency, blockchain, and NFTs have grown by 804% between April 2020-April 2022. Job postings in April 2022 were 15 times more than in 2019, highlighting the role of the pandemic in this sustained growth.
The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the use of technology across functions in India, resulting in a higher need for technology professionals, particularly those with knowledge in newer areas like cryptocurrency, NFTs, and blockchain. Whereas the application developer is the top job role across this field, followed by data engineer and full stack developer.
The data also shows that crypto roles appear to be one of the biggest share of hires in overall technology job roles, increasing from 41.22 percent in 2019 - 2020 to 67.48 percent in 2021 -2022. Globally, over 80 percent of companies are investing or are planning to invest in emerging technologies.
Several companies in India are enthusiastic about embracing new technology, some react to it differently. Being a technology first economy, Indian firms are rapidly investing in technologies that will put the country at the forefront of this new digital era.
A global report by Gartner forecasts that the business value generated by blockchain will grow rapidly, reaching $176 billion by 2025, potentially creating more job prospects. In India, enterprises’ priority in terms of spending is more in process automation and smarter analytics compared to the companies across the globe.
We are seeing digital and emerging technologies adoption on steroids by organisations globally. This has helped put customers at the center of corporate strategy. Traditional business models have struggled to survive or have been disrupted massively.
