SC ने सोमवार को सेना में महिला अधिकारियों को स्थाई Commission देने की मांग वाली याचिका पर सुनवाई करते हुए केंद्र सरकार को फटकार लगाई। अदालत ने केंद्र से कहा कि 2010 में दिल्ली उच्च न्यायलय के आदेश के बाद इसे लागू किया जाना चाहिए था। अदालत के फैसले के बाद महिलाओं को युद्ध क्षेत्र छोड़कर बाकी सभी स्थानों पर तैनाती मिलने का रास्ता साफ हो गया है।

केंद्र सरकार ने सुप्रीम कोर्ट को बुधवार को बताया कि राष्ट्रीय रक्षा अकादमी (एनडीए) में लड़कियों को शामिल करने की अनुमति देने का फैसला हो गया है। केंद्र का कहना है कि तीनों सेना प्रमुखों से सलाह मशविरा करने के बाद यह फैसला लिया गया। न्यायमूर्ति संजय किशन कौल की अध्यक्षता वाली पीठ ने कहा कि यह जानकर बेहद खुशी हुई कि सशस्त्र बलों ने खुद महिलाओं को एनडीए में शामिल करने का निर्णय लिया है। केंद्र की ओर से पेश अतिरिक्त सॉलिसिटर जनरल ऐश्वर्या भाटी ने पीठ को बताया कि केंद्र ने तीनों सेना प्रमुखों के साथ विचार-विमर्श के बाद कल यह फैसला किया। सुप्रीम कोर्ट का कहना है कि सशस्त्र बल देश में एक बहुत ही सम्मानजनक बल हैं, लेकिन उन्हें बलों में लैंगिक समानता की दिशा में और अधिक करने की आवश्यकता है। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने कहा कि उम्मीद है कि रक्षा बल उस महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका को महत्व देंगे जो महिलाएं निभा रही हैं। इसपर एएसजी भाटी ने कहा कि यह एक अच्छी खबर है। बलों और सरकार के उच्चतम स्तर पर निर्णय लिया गया है कि महिलाओं को राष्ट्रीय रक्षा अकादमी के माध्यम से स्थायी कमीशन के लिए शामिल किया जाएगा। पीठ ने कहा कि वह चाहती है कि रक्षा बल लैंगिक समानता के प्रति अधिक सक्रिय दृष्टिकोण अपनाएं, बजाय इसके कि अदालत उन्हें ऐसा करने का निर्देश दे।
