Well before COVID-19, online shopping and home delivery had become a normal part of everyday life for many people around the world. However, the current climate has seen a massive surge in the use of delivery and subscription services by the e-commerce players. However, digital-only banks are being looked upon as a blueprint for how to best operate as a financial services firm during uncertain times. With reduced in-person support, the existing digital customers are using their banking apps more often during the crisis. We are confident this trend will continue and grow post-coronavirus due to its conveniences, whereas security and vulnerability remains a big question mark. The COVID-19 lockdown has impacted those within the banking industry in several different ways, presenting both challenges and opportunities. We are entering a time when a strong digital strategy is becoming a necessity rather than a luxury – welcome to the new normal.
The first phase is a tactical response, where banks take immediate actions to support their employees and customers in an operational shift. This phase will see banks enable their workforce to operate remotely and see a rapid move toward digital channels. During this period banks will see a surge of calls into their call centers and will need to ensure that these calls can be answered, with vulnerable clients being prioritized. Working on having a flexible workforce will help keep jobs, provide better customer service, and encourage their clients to continue banking and being active. The second phase focuses on the end-user, high-priority focus items. For instance, banks will need to review their customer journeys and ensure they are enabled to support digital channels, and how they can best support their customers, such as virtual help desks. Cloud security continues to be a significant concern for cybersecurity professionals as 96% are moderately concerned and 32% are extremely concerned.A Cloud Security Report survey conducted by Security Insiders found that cloud security concerns among cybersecurity professionals remains high as the adoption of public cloud computing continues to surge in the wake of the pandemic and the resulting massive shift to remote work. Organizations continue to rapidly migrate workloads from data centres to the cloud, and the trend has been accelerating during the recent Covid pandemic. The report indicates that 33% of organizations are running more than half of their workloads in the cloud today, and that number is set to rise to 56% in the next 12–18 months.
At the same time, the Multi-cloud adoption is very much the norm as organizations were found to be operating in an expanded and diverse digital landscape. 71% of organizations are pursuing a hybrid or multi-cloud strategy as cloud is the preferred choice for integration of multiple services, scalability, or business continuity reasons. 76% of organizations are using two or more cloud providers and hybrid still accounts for more than one-third of the deployments. Among the key barriers to faster cloud adoption, survey participants mentioned lack of visibility (53%), lack of control (46%), lack of staff resources or expertise (39%), and high cost (35%) as the most significant negative factors. However, misconfiguration of cloud security remains the biggest security risk according to 67% of cybersecurity professionals in the survey.

Connected devices leading to the growth of edge computing
The rise of the connected devices ecosystem has led to a rise in demand for high-speed networks. It has exposed the limitations of the overall network architecture, highlighting the need for edge computing. There are hundreds of sensors in a modern-day car and creates tons of data. And while most of it is processed in the vehicle itself, transfer of data to the cloud might be needed by some in-car applications. Data moved to the cloud could be constrained more intelligently with edge computing. With the advent of next-gen technologies in the autonomous vehicle ecosystem, challenges such as delay in data transmission, real-time results, on-the-spot accurate and vital decisions, processing of large quantities of data, etc., have also increased. Automotive players are focused on leveraging edge computing to address these ever-evolving challenges.
In traditional enterprise computing, data is produced at a user's computer. That data is moved across a WAN such as the internet, through the corporate LAN, where the data is stored and worked upon by an enterprise application. Results of that work are then conveyed back to the end-user. With regards to infrastructure of edge computing, it is a network of local micro datacenters for storage and processing purposes. At the same time, the central datacenter oversees the proceedings and gets valuable insights into the local data processing. However, we need to be mindful that edge computing is a kind of expansion of cloud computing architecture - an optimized solution for decentralized infrastructure. The fact is in a digital-first world, personalized content drives everything in the digital economy.

Father of Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has passed away. BN Yugandhar, the former bureaucrat, who had served in the Prime Minister’s Office under the late PV Narasimha Rao, died in Hyderabad on Friday while undergoing treatment in a private hospital. He was 82.
Satya Nadella has been reaching Hyderabad today from America to participate in the last rites of his father.
BN Yugandhar was the director of the Mussoorie-based Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration and also he was a member of the Planning Commission during 2004-2009. He also worked under former prime minister Manmohan Singh.
