Traffic movement on the main road connecting Vani Vihar and Master Canteen was disrupted today after students of the Rama Devi (RD) Women’s University blocked road demanding retention of autonomous status for the varsity’s Plus-II and Plus-III colleges.
Holding placards and shouting slogans, the students blocked the road by burning tyres. The students argued that Rama Devi was famous as a college and the Plus-II and Plus-III students are its identity. However, the State government has decided to separate the Plus-II and Plus-III colleges after it was declared a university, the students alleged.

Bijepur By-election results - BJD in Celebration mood- Rita Sahu won the Battle
Biju Janata Dal's Rita Sahu won the Bijepur assembly bypoll on Wednesday with a margin of close to 42,000 votes over the nearest candidate from BJP.
After 21 rounds of counting, Sahu polled 1,02,871 votes while BJP's Ashok Panigrahy was a distant second at 60,938 votes. Congress candidate Pranay Sahu was relegated to an also ran and secured 10,274 votes.
Hailing his party candidate’s victory, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said the outcome of the polls would have an impact on the general elections in 2019.
The BJD won a staggering 56 per cent of the polled votes, while the BJP won 33.53 per cent and the Congress a mere 5.65 per cent, said Mr Majhi.
The Bijepur result assumes significance, particularly for the BJD, BJP and the Congress as it is seen as a precursor to the 2019 general elections.
The results proved that the popularity of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik remains intact despite an aggressive campaign by the BJP, which failed to capitalise on its advantages from the panchayat polls.

The annual tribal fair, popularly known as Adivasi Mela, is all set to kick off on January 26 but at a different location in the capital city this year. The event, which was held at the Adivasi Ground at Unit-1, will now be organised at the Idco Exhibition Ground at Unit-3.
The State Government on Wednesday announced shifting of the venue for the fair. The event, to be held from 2 pm till 9 pm, will begin on the Republic Day and conclude on February 9.
The location was changed on the ground of smooth traffic management and better parking facilities, according to an official Press release.
The colourful fair showcases tribal market, tribal food court, tribal agricultural produces and forest produces at an Adivasi Village set up on the exhibition ground.
The authorities were planning to shift the fair venue to the Janata Maidan before finally deciding to hold it at the Idco Exhibition Ground.
