Juice Jacking: Protecting Your Phone and Data from Public Charging Stations !!
Public phone charging stations can pose a security risk for users due to the potential for malware infections or other security threats. The FBI is warning consumers against using public phone charging stations in order to avoid exposing their devices to malicious software. Public USB stations like the kind found at malls and airports are being used by bad actors to spread malware and monitoring software.
While public charging stations are attractive to many when devices are running critically low on battery, security experts have for years raised concerns about the risk. Just by plugging your phone into a compromised power strip or charger, your device is now infected, and that compromises all your data. It brings an opportunity for the Bad actors to load malware onto public USB charging stations to maliciously access electronic devices while they are being charged.
Secondly, The cord you use to charge your phone is also used to send data from your phone to other devices. For instance, when you plug your iPhone into your Mac with the charging cord, you can download photos from your phone to your computer. If a port is compromised, there’s no limit to what information a hacker could take. There have even been reports of infected cables being given away as promotional gifts.

Growing acceptance of TikTok is going to give stiff competition to YouTube by 2024. The Chinese-owned video platform is set to overtake the advertising scale of Twitter and Snapchat combined, despite TikTok being launched globally 12 years after its Google-owned rival. TikTok, which was banned in India in June 2020 along with several Chinese apps in the first lot, is likely to triple its global worldwide ad revenues $11.6 billion this year -- more than $10.44 billion for Snapchat and Twitter combined. The forecast is going to catch up with YouTube by 2024 when both are predicted to take $23.6bn in ad revenue, reports The Guardian. In 2021, social video app TikTok had approximately 78.7 million users in the United States. This figure is projected to increase by around eight percent year-over-year, reaching 84.9 million users in 2022. TikTok is one of the fastest-growing social media apps in the United States and especially popular with younger digital audiences. Meanwhile, TikTok emerged as the top grossing non-game app in Q1 2022, generating $821 million in consumer spending in the quarter. On Google Play, it came second to Google One, which topped the chart with nearly $250 million, according to Sensor Tower. A Washington Post report late last month claimed that Meta allegedly paid a prominent Republican consulting firm to malign TikTok. According to the report, Meta ran a nationwide campaign to sow distrust about one of the company's top competitors, TikTok.

#Ransomware continues to be an ongoing problem with protecting users’ data, there is a cell phone scam the public needs to be aware of as well. The FBI says criminals have escalated SIM card swap attacks to hijack victims’ phone numbers and steal millions of dollars from fiat and virtual currency accounts. “Both people and companies have become conditioned to being able to verify identity through simple questions like social security number or mother’s maiden name. Unfortunately, this falls apart completely when data breaches affecting millions of people routinely occur. Now information that was previously assumed to be relatively private is in the hands of malicious parties who can leverage it to easily impersonate their victims.” SIM swapping is a scam in which malicious parties target cell phone carriers to gain access to victims’ bank accounts, virtual currency accounts and additional sensitive information by using social engineering, insider threat or phishing techniques. Social engineering involves a criminal to impersonate the victim’s mobile number by tricking the cell phone carrier into switching the victim’s mobile number to a SIM card that is in the criminal’s possession, allowing the malicious party to access the victim’s calls, texts and other data, but this is only one of the three methods used to steal funds from victims.
FBI encourages mobile users to first contact their mobile carriers immediately to regain control of their phone number, then accessing their online accounts to change their passwords that protect their sensitive data. Insider threat takes place when a criminal actor pays off a mobile carrier employee to switch the victim’s SIM to a card currently in the criminal’s possession. The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) announced that worldwide sales of semiconductors were $48.8 billion in October 2021, an increase of 24.0% from the October 2020 total of $39.4 billion and 1.1% more than the September 2021 total of $48.3 billion. Growth is driven by mobile phones, notebooks, servers, automotive, smart home, gaming, wearables, and Wi-Fi access points, with increased memory pricing. Monthly sales are compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) organization and represent a three-month moving average. Additionally, a newly released WSTS industry forecast projects annual global sales will increase 25.6% in 2021 and 8.8% in 2022. SIA represents 98% of the U.S. semiconductor industry by revenue and nearly two-thirds of non-U.S. chip firms. Global semiconductor demand remained high in October, with year-to-year sales increasing substantially across all major regional markets,” said John Neuffer, SIA president and CEO. “Annual chip sales and units shipped are projected to reach all-time highs in 2021, with moderate annual growth expected in 2022.
Additionally, SIA endorsed the WSTS Fall 2021 global semiconductor sales forecast, which projects the industry’s worldwide sales will be $553.0 billion in 2021, a 25.6% increase from the 2020 sales total of $440.4 billion. WSTS projects year-to-year increases in Asia Pacific (26.7%), Europe (25.6%), the United States (24.6%), and Japan (19.5%). In 2022, the global market is projected to post moderate growth of 8.8% to reach $601.5 billion in annual sales. WSTS tabulates its semi-annual industry forecast by gathering inputs from an extensive group of global semiconductor companies that provide accurate and timely indicators of semiconductor trends. India is a follower market and highlighted as the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world, but it also tops the list for failed startups. In 2020, despite many challenges due to the pandemic, Indian startups continued to battle hard, raising $9.4 billion across 881 deals, and adding 14 companies to the unicorn club. Investors and founders said the increase in deal flow is primarily led by significant liquidity in the venture capital space and overall bullishness in the technology sector across private and public markets, globally. The State Of Indian Startup Ecosystem 2020 — in an optimistic scenario, the total funding amount in 2020 would reach $11.3 Bn (which was 11% lower than 2019). So, the startup ecosystem has performed slightly better than expectations. Trends show that higher revenue increase has also resulted in higher net losses. Compared to 2020,both the funding amount and deal count will surge 19% and 13% respectively.

अमेरिका में सरकार ने देश की सबसे बड़ी ईंधन पाइपलाइन पर हुए एक साइबर हमले के बाद बाइडेन प्रशासन ने देश आपातकाल का एलान कर दिया है... पाइपलाइन पर साइबर अपराधियों के एक गैंग ने शुक्रवार को हमला किया जिसके बाद से इसकी मरम्मत का काम अभी भी जारी है... इमरजेंसी के ऐलान के बाद अब यहाँ से ईंधन की सप्लाई पाइपलाइन की जगह सड़क मार्ग से हो सकती है... आपको बता दें कि कोलोनियल पाइपलाइन से प्रतिदिन 25 लाख बैरल तेल जाता है... अमेरिका के ईस्ट कोस्ट के राज्यों में डीजल, गैस और जेट ईंधन की 45% आपूर्ति इसी पाइपलाइन से होती है... जानकारों का कहना है कि इसकी वजह से सोमवार को ईंधन की कीमतें 2-3% बढ़ जाएँगी... और अगर इसे जल्दी बहाल नहीं किया गया तो इसका असर और व्यापक हो सकता है...
