7 in 10 working women in India quit or consider quitting their jobs: LinkedIn
The latest consumer research based on 2,266 respondents in India was to uncover the challenges faced by women at work, and spotlight opportunities for employers to help break biases that are holding women back. The research finds that poor employer sentiment towards flexible working and career breaks is holding women back from asking for greater flexibility and re-entering the workforce. In fact, India’s working women are quitting or considering quitting their jobs in 2022 as pay cuts, bias, and exclusion become their penalties for working flexibly. The LinkedIn’s research shows that following the impact of the pandemic, 8 in 10 (83%) of working women have realised they want to work more flexibly. In fact the survey finds that 72% of working women are rejecting job roles that don’t allow them to work flexibly, while 70% have already quit or considered quitting their jobs because they weren’t offered the right flexible policies. When asked about the benefits of flexible working, around 2 in 5 (43%) women said it improves their work-life balance and helps them progress their careers, while 1 in 3 (34%) said it improves their mental health and 33% said increases their likelihood of staying in their current jobs. But due to strong employer bias, India’s working women are paying heavy penalties to work flexibly. 9 in 10 (88%) working women had to take a pay cut to work flexibly, 2 in 5 (37%) had their flexible working request denied, and 1 in 4 (27%) struggled to convince their bosses to accept their request.
This has made women reluctant towards asking for greater flexibility because they fear exclusion, being held back from promotions, working overtime, taking pay cuts, and being treated unfavourably by their superiors. Given the impending guilt and stigma around flexible policies, 1 in every 3 working women in India shies away from telling their clients (34%), colleagues (35%), and friends (33%) that they work flexibly. Cyber criminals often deploy ransomware attacks by running code to encrypt data and then demanding payment in the form of cryptocurrency to release it. Because Bitcoin lives in the digital world, Bitcoin users can send it anywhere in the world without any banking infrastructure or exchange fees, fostering peer-to-peer financial transactions. As identities can be hidden in Bitcoin wallets, it is the obvious choice for cyber criminals to get what they want and remain anonymous. There are an estimated 106 million people worldwide who now use cryptocurrency exchanges. Created 13 years ago, the first cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, was relatively unheard of for the first years of its existence, only used by a small group who sought to retain a level of transactional anonymity. The second cryptocurrency was not created until two years later, but as of January 2022, there are over 8,000 different cryptocurrencies.
There is growing innovation from attackers in the space of cryptocurrency exchange attacks. Consumers, businesses and governments are finding new ways to use cryptocurrency, but a recent string of cyber-attacks has highlighted security risks and shortcomings. There is rising concern that “there will be a hack and my money will vanish”. According to blockchain analysis firm Chainalysis, the total value of cryptocurrencies held by illicit wallet addresses worldwide soared by 79% last year to $14 billion from $7.8 billion in 2020. Crypto investors lost over $2.8 billion globally to various crypto scams in 2021. Illicit address refers to wallets used for cyber-attacks, Ponzi schemes and other scams. Satellite Communication has become widespread and ubiquitous throughout the country for diverse applications catering to the sectors which are irreplaceable in serving the nation's interest. Satellite internet is a broadband internet service that uses radio waves to transmit the internet from an ISP hub to your satellite receiver dish which is attached with a modem to provide internet access. Some like SpaceX use lasers instead of radio waves to transmit the data. The radio waves are reflected in the receiver by geosynchronous low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites that are in a fixed position in the sky. The data is transmitted to the satellite. Satellite internet could be the next big step in internet connectivity. Once a fleet of satellites is in orbit, companies would only need to set up the satellite receiver and modem to provide access to the internet from almost any corner of the world. There is no need for cables or other ground-based infrastructure at the customer’s access point. It would stand to revolutionise internet access the same way that the satellite DTH broadcasting services did for television access in India.
India is at the cusp of being a global hub for increased use of satellite communication, which can attract billions of dollars as FDI, generate huge employment, and enhance the GDP growth. About $40 billion private investments have already come in from major satellite broadband companies like Elon Musk’s SpaceX, Amazon’s Kuiper Project and the Bharti Airtel-backed OneWeb and Hughes are competing to become the biggest names in satellite internet in India. For a country like India, where providers would otherwise need to cover vast grounds with ground-based infrastructure, satellite internet provides an easy way to provide internet access to rural areas. ‘Official Digital Currency Bill – 2021’ is the proposed crypto regulation that will suspend all private cryptocurrencies and work on laying the foundation for the launch of an “official digital currency” by RBI. This bill was introduced in the Parliament’s Union Budget session, this year. Thinking on the fate of Indian crypto startups: Currently, India has more than 200 blockchain startups. Out of those, many have now been acquired by Binance, a global crypto asset management and trading company, including #Unocoin, #Zebpay, and #WazirX, while leading US-based crypto company #Coinbase has been investing in Indian startups. However, these activities are no longer limited to passive investments.
