Odisha: BJD announces nine Lok Sabha and 36 assembly candidates, backs new faces.
The regional party is in its 19th year of power in Odisha. In 2014, it had won 20 of 21 Lok Sabha seats. BJD has backed only two incumbents- Pinaki Mishra in Puri and Balasore’s Rabindra Jena in Balasore.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday released a fresh list of candidates for nine Lok Sabha and 36 assembly seats, where the BJD continues to bank on fresh faces over long term parliamentary incumbents.

The regional party is in its 19th year of power in Odisha. In 2014, it had won 20 of 21 Lok Sabha seats.
In Bhubaneswar, BJD has decided to back former Mumbai Police Commissioner and IPS officer Arup Patnaik against BJP’s candidate and former IAS officer Aparajita Sarangi. Both candidates will be contesting their first election.
According to sources in BJD, the party has dropped Bhubaneswar’s incumbent MP Prasanna Pathsani assuring him of a Rajya Sabha Seat.
BJD has picked Odiya cinema star and Rajya Sabha MP Anubhav Mohanty to take on Baijayant Panda, the former Kendrapara MP who recently joined BJP.
Kendrapara, known as Biju Patnaik’s bastion, is a high stakes seat for BJD. Panda, who has been elected twice from Kendrapara on a BJD ticket, has to now prove he can win under BJP’s symbol.દ્વારા POLITICAL PREMIER LEAGUE| 262 અભિપ્રાયો

Lok Sabha election 2019: Senior BJP leader in Odisha quits, accuses Union minister Pradhan of running fiefdom
Subash Chouhan, who was denied a ticket for the Bargarh Lok Sabha seat, resigned from the party protesting the way it was being run.
Ahead of the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections next month, the BJP in Odisha got a major jolt on Tuesday when senior leader and its former candidate from Bargarh Lok Sabha seat, Subash Chouhan, resigned from the party protesting the way it was being run.
Chouhan, 52, had lost the 2014 Lok Sabha polls from Bargarh constitueency in western Odisha to BJiju Janata Dal’s Prabhas Singh by a little more than 11000 votes. Though he expected renomination from Bargarh, he was let down when the party announced the name of Suresh Pujari, BJP national secretary who too had lost the 2014 Lok Sabha polls from neighbouring Sambalpur Lok Sabha constituency.
“I had nurtured Bargarh for last 5 years. But I was denied a ticket and asked to stand from the Bijepur assembly seat. I am hurt not just because I did not get ticket. BJP is in the pocket of a particular person and Sangh parivar is giving him protection. The party is like his fiefdom. Hundreds of Swayamsevak who had worked for BJP are feeling let down,” said Chouhan after submitting his resignation letter in the state party office.દ્વારા POLITICAL PREMIER LEAGUE| 351 અભિપ્રાયો

Baijayant Panda, Jual Oram and Aparajita Sarangi in BJP's first list for Odisha
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s first list of candidates includes former BJD MP and BJP’s new vice president, Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda, and bureaucrat-turned- politician Aparajita Sarangi.
Panda will be contesting from his old constituency, Kendrapara and Sarangi, as has been presumed ever since she joined the party, from Bhubaneswar.
There are no big surprises in BJP’s announcement of its first set of LS candidates for Odisha which goes to polls fro April 11- 29.
