Vidya Balan has had a rollercoaster sort of journey in showbiz. Having been born to relatively progressive parents, the industry was an eye-opener to the young actor, who made her debut with TV several years ago. Since then, Vidya Balan has had to face a lot of rejections, labels, body image issues to become 'THE VIDYA BALAN' today. There is no doubt that the actress today embodies perfection and advocates for being themselves. However, her road to self-acceptance hasn't been easy. In an exclusive chat, she opens up on the time when she cried to herself after a producer called her 'ugly' and how she overcame that face. Setting a precedent for young girls, she said that the journey isn't easy but once you understand that everyone is beautiful, it becomes easier to love yourself. She also spoke about the time she was so angry that she walked from Marine Drive to Bandra out of frustration. Vidya also shared her views on smashing the patriarchy and how it is a gradual win for women in today's time. She also opened up on her film Natkhat which highlights patriarchy and violence. In an industry that reeks of insecurity, Vidya Balan is like a breath of fresh air. The actress who's undoubtedly one of the finest performers of this generation, always surprises with her stellar choices and Sherni, her next film that hits digital platforms today, is no different. While we caught up with VB just before the film released, we spoke to her about how Sherni is a metaphor to her and every other woman's journey. From battling misogyny and patriarchy, fighting sexism to trying to fit in and be equals, women go through a lot everyday. Vidya shares her experiences of battling the lows in her life - whether it's the time when she was judged for the way she looked, shamed for her body weight and made to feel terrible about herself. But she also discusses how she never gave up, how her Sherni of a mother instilled faith in her and how working with a healer brought calm to her life. Apart from this, recently there was huge furore about Kareena Kapoor Khan asking for a certain amount to do a film, adding fuel to the pay disparity debate that has existed for a while. The male actors, despite charging 5 times as the women, are never called out and when we asked Vidya about the same, she gave a very balanced and logical solution to it.
