Privacy over convenience
According to an IBM report titled “Global A.I. Adoption Index 2022”, over 60% of Indian companies have already been using A.I., which has been said to have increased due to the pandemic enforced digitisation, and many believe that there is no turning point from here.
There has been rapid adoption of artificial intelligence around the world and in India. The survey says only 61% of the participants are aware of what bias in artificial intelligence is. 65 % of the participants stated that they try avoiding A.I.-enabled features such as phone unlocking using face ID, digital voice assistance, etc. 55% of the participants believe that A.I. and its use is indispensable in today’s day and age. Only 17% of the participants answer yes that there are any laws in our country that govern the usage of A.I.
Experts say, while privacy concerns are usually always a major concern when using new technology, the scope and applicability of AI presents a particularly challenging scenario. Big data’s effects can be compared to AI’s in some ways. Still, AI technology has the added ability to process enormous amounts of data while also using it to learn, build adaptive models, and make actionable predictions, often without clear, comprehensible procedures.”
Tsaaro believes that the government has a significant impact on the atmosphere that allows the development of safe and ethical AI to coexist with technological advancement. A comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach is necessary to strike the correct balance because too much, the wrong kind or the wrong kind of regulation could hinder the adoption of AI or ignore its real problems.

#Telecomindustry body Cellular Operators of India said citizens are unaware that buying, selling, installation and possession of mobile signal boosters is a punishable offence, they should take the government’s permission for sale.
The #DoT has raised the issue several times in the last 4-5 years and even conducted raids to check illegal sales of these equipment. It has been stated that the use of cellular signal jammers, GPS blocker or other signal jamming devices is generally illegal, except specifically permitted by the government of India.
Private sector organizations or private individuals cannot procure or use jammers in India. It has also been stated that it is unlawful to advertise, sell, distribute, import or otherwise market signal jamming devices in India, except as permitted by the government guidelines.
Through signal boosters or repeaters, users can amplify the cell phone signal reception. But unauthorised use of such products results in disruption of public telecommunication services which jeopardises the quality and coverage of the networks. The mobile phone signal booster is a repeater system that makes use of an amplifier to add gain or power to the reception in different directions. The use of these external boosters is to receive and transmit signals to a cellular tower with greater power and sensitivity.
The department had issued a notice on January 21 warning all e-commerce companies from selling or facilitating the sale of wireless jammers on their online platforms. The DoT also clarified the entities that were eligible for acquiring signal boosters, stating that only Telecom Service Providers were eligible for acquiring signal boosters and repeaters. The reason behind this is, Ecommerce companies in India are looking at a market opportunity worth $400 Billion by 2030 in the country.

Cybercrooks are using phishing while it is still a major tactic used by attackers. It’s so easy to get started thanks to phishing-as-a-service (PhaaS) offerings by cybercrooks. Microsoft has released a report on one of them, called BulletProofLink, which sells phishing kits, email templates, hosting, and automated services at a relatively low cost. Phishing kits are nothing new, but this phishing-as-a-service caught the attention of Microsoft's security teams because it lowers the bar to quality phishing even more. With over 100 available phishing templates that mimic known brands and services, the BulletProofLink operation is responsible for many of the phishing campaigns that impact enterprises today, the report says. With this the cyber insurance industry is likely to go mainstream and is a simple cost of doing business.
The report further states, if the ransomware buyer is lucky, the credentials can include passwords for high-value admin accounts, allowing for greater movement within a compromised network. These phishing service providers host the links and pages and attackers who pay for these services simply receive the stolen credentials later on. Unlike in certain ransomware operations, attackers do not gain access to devices directly and instead simply receive untested stolen credentials, the Microsoft 365 Defender Threat Intelligence Team notes in a blogpost. Microsoft has published its research on this operation to help customers refine email-filtering rules and adopt security technologies it offers. While phishing kits are sold once in a ZIP file with phishing templates to set up a bogus login page or emails, phishing-as-a-service includes the whole package. Lots of arguments are going on for bitcoin which is based on the blockchain technology. Bitcoin has formed at least three classic bubbles already in its brief history. Each time it crashed by 80% or more, and then revived after a few years. Cryptocurrencies, despite being considered among the market's hot commodities, have drawn sharp criticism from billionaire hedge fund manager John Paulson who described it as a "bubble" that would prove to be "worthless". Paulson, while speaking at an episode of 'Bloomberg Wealth with David Rubenstein', said there is no intrinsic value attached with cryptocurrencies except for a "limited amount". The segment is "too volatile", he said, pointing out that Bitcoin went from $5,000 to $45,000 within a short period.

Notably, cryptocurrencies, which are yet to be considered legal tender in any major economy, have garnered massive interest over the past couple of years.
