સુરતના પોલીસ કમિશનર અને ગુજરાતના સિનિયર IPS અધિકારી સતિષ શર્માએ સુરતના ડિંડોલી વિસ્તારમાં લોકોને સંબોધતા જણાવ્યું હતું કે મારી વિનંતી છે કે તમે દારૂથી દૂર રહો, પણ જો તમે દારૂથી દૂર રહી શકતા નથી તો દારૂ પીધા પછી ઘરે જઈ સૂઈ જાવ અને વાહન તો ચલાવતા જ નહીં. પોલીસ કમિશનર સતિષ શર્માનું નિવેદન જરા વિચિત્ર લાગે કારણ ગુજરાતમાં દારૂબંધી છે અને સતિષ શર્મા જેવા કડક અમલદાર આ પ્રકારની સલાહ આપે, પણ આ નિવેદનની ટીકા કરવાને બદલે આ આપણી વાસ્તવિકતા છે તે પણ સમજી લેવાની જરૂર છે.
સુરતના ડિંડોલી વિસ્તારમાં એક કાર ચાલકે મોટર સાયકલ ઉપર પસાર થઈ રહેલી વ્યક્તિઓને ટક્કર મારતા ત્રણ વ્યકિતઓના મોત થયા હતા, જેના સંદર્ભમાં ડિંડોલીમાં સ્થાનિકો દ્વારા એક શોક સભાનું આયોજન કરવામાં આવ્યુ હતું, આ શોક સભામાં હાજર રહેલા સુરત પોલીસ કમિશનર સતિષ શર્માએ રસ્તા ઉપર થઈ રહેલા અકસ્માતો અંગે ચિંતા વ્યક્ત કરતા જણાવ્યું હતું કે સમગ્ર દેશમાં 1.35 લાખ લોકો માર્ગ અકસ્માતમાં મૃત્યુ પામે છે, જેમાં 70 ટકા મૃતકોની ઉંમર 15થી 40 વર્ષ વચ્ચેની હોય છે.
માત્ર સુરતમાં ગત વર્ષે 149 લોકોના માર્ગ અકસ્માતમાં મૃત્યુ થયા હતા, જેમાંથી 70 કરતા વધુ મોટર સાયકલ સવારોનું મોત હેલમેટ નહીં પહેરવાને કારણે થયું હતું, દસથી બાર મોટર સાઇકલ સવારો તો માત્ર સ્લીપ થઈ જવાને કારણે તેમને થયેલી હેડ ઇન્જરીને કારણે મોતને ભેટ હતા, વાહન અકસ્માતમાં 70 ટકા કરતા વધુ અકસ્માત ઓવર સ્પીડને કારણે થાય છે, રસ્તામાં વાહન લઈ નીકળો ત્યારે આપણે તો ભૂલ ના કરીએ તેની તકેદારી રાખી, પણ કોઈની ભૂલની કિંમત આપણને ચૂકવવી પડે નહીં તેનું પણ ધ્યાન રાખવાનું છે.
