Centre cancels FCRA licence of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation headed by Sonia Gandhi - Tv24
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Saturday cancelled the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) licence of - Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) and Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust (RGCT) - two NGOs headed by Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, for allegedly violating the foreign funding law.
The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation is a non-government organisation associated with the Gandhi family.
According to the sources, in July 2020, MHA formed a committee and based on its report, the decision to cancel the foundation was taken. The investigators covered alleged manipulation of documents while filing income-tax returns, misuse of funds and money laundering while receiving funds from foreign countries, including China.
A notice informing about the cancellation of the FCRA licence has been sent to the respective office-bearers of the NGOs.
Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi is the chairperson of RGF, while other trustees include former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, and Members of Parliament Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Set up in 1991, RGF worked on a number of critical issues including health, science and technology, women and children, disability support, etc., from 1991 till 2009. It also worked in the education sector, according to its website.
The trustees of the RGCT are Rahul Gandhi, Ashok Ganguly, Bansi Mehta and Deep Joshi. It was established in 2002 to address the development needs of the underprivileged people of the country, especially the rural poor.

Bhumi Pednekar recently appeared in the comedy Thank You For Coming and the film invited some extreme reactions from the viewers. While some praised the film for its bold concept, some shamed it for that. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble host Akash Bhatnagar, Bhumi spoke about the latter group of people and slammed them for the shaming. She expressed her disappointment towards people who didn’t criticise the film but its intent. The actress discussed the prevalent gender bias and how people never took offence when she was a part of such stories told from a male perspective. She pointed out how Pankaj Tripathi and Akshay Kumar starrer OMG 2 was supported by the same people who shamed her film, when somewhere they dealt with the same subject. Bhumi revealed if not getting any support from women within the industry disappointed her. She highlighted the hypocrisy of the situation that people accept objectification of women but have a problem with them talking about their sexuality. You can watch the entire conversation here.
