Kashmiri traders detained for protesting against GST implementation in JK
Police today detained several traders after they tried to march towards the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly to protest the implementation of GST in the state in its present form.The traders were detained near the gate of the Civil Secretariat complex, which also houses the assembly, after they took out a protest march, police said.The traders were scheduled to hold a sit-in near the assembly to protest the implementation of the new tax regime in the state in its present form, claiming that it would lead to the erosion of the state's special position and its fiscal autonomy.Holding black flags and shouting slogans against the GST, several traders reached Jehangir Chowk here to protest.They tried to march towards the civil secretariat complex, but police swung into action and detained several of them outside the Civil Secretariat, the police said.

Curfew-like restrictions imposed in downtown Srinagar
Curfew-like restrictions had been imposed as precautionary measures since early this morning in downtown and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) Srinagar, where people are being directed to remain indoors.
Both the factions of Hurriyat Conference and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) had yesterday in a joint statement urged people to hold protests after Friday prayers against US action of branding Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) chief Syed Salahuddin as a terrorist.
Following the protest call, District Magistrate, Srinagar, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, imposed restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC in area under the jurisdictions of Police Stations Nowhatta, M R Gunj, Rainawari, Khanyar and Safakadal today as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident. However, the situation on the ground was entirely different as people were not allowed to move out of their houses since early this morning in these areas. 2 militants killed in Sopore encounter
Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Rafiabad area of Kashmir's Baramulla district on Wednesday, an Army official said.
The militants were holed up inside a house in Pazalpora village in Sopore township of the district.
The Army official said two weapons were seized and operations were still on in the area.
Following intelligence inputs about the presence of militants, security forces had launched a cordon and search operation on Tuesday night.
A police official said the search operation was halted for the night but the forces maintained the cordon to stop the militants from escaping.
The operation was resumed on Wednesday morning and the gunfight started after the trapped militants opened fire on the forces, he said.
