New laws designed to destroy agriculture; not scared of Modi, will continue to fight: Rahul Gandhi

The Modi government's new farm laws are designed to 'destroy' the agriculture sector, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged Tuesday and asserted that the only solution to the farmers' issue is to repeal the legislations. He said that the laws will put the entire agriculture sector in the hands of 'three to four crony capitalists'. Hitting back at BJP president JP Nadda for his tweets earlier in the day criticising him, the Congress leader said it was an 'attempted distraction'. Rahul Gandhi made the remarks while addressing a press conference at AICC Headquarters in New Delhi. Watch highlights. (Text: PTI)

Previous regimes lacked modern vision, had no metro policy: PM Modi | Economic Times

Work is in progress on over 1,000-km-long metro rail network in 27 cities in India, PM Narendra Modi said on Monday. He said that there was a time when there was no modern thinking and policy on metro in the country and, as a result, there was a different (type of) metro in each city. Now, an integrated approach has been brought in so that various modes of transport, such bus and trains, complement each other rather than running independently, the Prime Minister added. He was speaking after performing the ground-breaking ceremony of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-II and Surat Metro Rail Project, via video link. Watch highlights from PM Modi's remarks. At Agra Metro project launch, PM says reforms needed for development as old laws become 'burden'

His remarks came in the backdrop of ongoing protests by farmers against three new farms laws. PM Modi said that the government believes in all-round holistic reforms, rather than piecemeal reforms which were happening earlier. The Prime Minister was speaking at inauguration of the Phase-1 construction of the Agra Metro project. The Rs 8,379.62-crore project comprises two corridors with a total length of 29.4 km and will connect major tourist attractions like Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Sikandra with railway stations and bus stands. EU's reluctance stuck FTA talks; bloc had other priorities: EAM Jaishankar | Economic Times

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said negotiations for a free trade agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union were stuck for the last six years due to reluctance of the grouping. He asserted India has nothing in principle against free trade agreements or preferential trade agreements. Reiterating the reason behind India pulling out of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) last year, Jaishankar said it had to take the decision as its concerns were not addressed. The minister was virtually participating in the sixth edition of Mediterranean Dialogues (MED 2020) on Friday. Watch highlights from EAM Jaishankar's remarks. (Text: PTI)
