The use of electronic equipment has increased dramatically in India due to the rapid expansion of the IT and communications industries. ഇലക്ട്രിക് വാഹനങ്ങളും ആന്തരിക ജ്വലന യന്ത്രത്തിനു (internal combustion engine) പകരമായി ഇലക്ട്രിക് മോട്ടോറുകള് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. ഇത്തരം വാഹനങ്ങള് വലിയ ട്രാക്ഷന് ബാറ്ററി പാക്കുകള് ഉപയോഗിച്ചാണ് അതിന്റെ എൻജിന് ശക്തി പകരുന്നത്. ഈ ബാറ്ററിയെ ചാര്ജിങ് സ്റ്റേഷനുകളിലെയോ സ്വന്തമോ ആയ വാള് പ്ലഗുകളില് കുത്തിയിട്ടാണ് ചാര്ജ് നിറയ്ക്കുന്നത്. ഇത്തരം വാഹനങ്ങള് വൈദ്യുതിയെ മാത്രം ആശ്രയിക്കുന്നതിനാല്, അവയ്ക്ക് സങ്കീർണമായി എക്സ്ഹോസ്റ്റ് സിസ്റ്റത്തിന്റെ ആവശ്യമില്ല. കൂടാതെ ദ്രവ്യാവസ്ഥയിലുള്ള ഇന്ധനങ്ങളൊന്നും ഉപയോഗിക്കാത്തതിനാല് അവ സംഭരിക്കാനുള്ള ടാങ്കുകളും ആവശ്യമില്ല.

റോക്കറ്റിന്റെ വരെ മൈലേജ് ചോദിക്കുന്നവർ എന്ന ചീത്തപ്പേരുള്ള നാം ആദ്യ ചിന്തിക്കുക ഇലക്ട്രിക് കാറിന്റെ റേഞ്ചിനെപ്പറ്റിയായിരിക്കും, കൂടെ വഴിയിൽ കിടക്കുമോ എന്ന പേടിയും. എന്നാൽ 100 മുതൽ 400 കിലോമീറ്റർ വരെ മൈലേജുള്ള ഇലക്ട്രിക് കാറുകൾ വിപണിയിലെത്തിക്കഴിഞ്ഞു, അതിലധികം റേഞ്ചുള്ളവ വരാനിരിക്കുന്നു. റേഞ്ചു കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ രണ്ടാമത്തെ ചോദ്യം ഒരു പ്രവശ്യം ചാർജ് ചെയ്യാൻ എത്ര യൂണിറ്റ് വൈദ്യുതി ചിലവാകും എന്നായിരിക്കും.
